BACK TO THE ISLAND – This month we take the journey back to the Dominican Republic where we have new production at a new factory. We welcome the release of Craft Series New Beginnings and WLP Mofongo which are set to start shipping next week. We enlisted the services of a very talented newcomer, LA iSLA, for the production.
New Beginnings is a 6” X 52 toro featuring all Dominican fillers and binder, surrounded by a beautiful Mexican San Andres wrapper. The unique flavor of New Beginnings can be attributed in part to the Piloto and HVA used in the filler.
As the name would imply, Mofongo gets its inspiration from the traditional Caribbean dish. This 6” X 52 toro uses Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers, and a Dominican binder and is finished with an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper.
Since first sitting at the drawing board, over a year has passed waiting for these new projects to arrive. We experimented with incredible tobaccos, some of which we had never used before. We hope you will agree that patience has been rewarded.

Incredible cigars! Just incredible. I’m relatively new to Viaje but I am becoming a big fan. The depth of flavor in these are awesome. The new beginnings was probably my favorite out of the 2. Had excellent dark chocolate notes with cedar. The flavors were very refined. Definitely medium + for me. Mofongo was excellent as well as I’m a huge fan of corojo. This one was about mild-medium for me but still produced those earthy, cedar and baking spice notes. Really glad I got these because I enjoyed the heck out of them. Awesome price from oxford too!

The Monfongo was phenomenal, definitely a departure from what I usually get from Viaje. The corojo is very mild on this, but still distinct. Lots of unique flavor from the blend, nutty, almost fruity at times. Very good construction throughout both smokes. New beginnings ramps up as you smoke. This was the more powerful of the twi. Excellent smoke production, and deep rich flavor. Glad I tried them!

When Viaje drops their Craft Series and White Label Project (WLP) cigars, I always try to get a few of the exceptional cigars to try. These were no exception. The Craft Series New Beginnings and WLP Mofongo are made in the LA iSLA facotry, same as the Matilde and LA SIRENA, and one of the new Warped cigars. This Dominican factory is putting out some really fantastic smokes. The New Beginnings is bold and medium to medium plus, with dark cocoa notes. The New Beginnings is a 6 x 52 toro that uses Dominican tobacco for the filler and binder, while the wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés leaf. The White Label Project, is generally used to launch new cigars before they get their own branding. Mofongo is more mild, but full of flavor. Both burned very well, producing lots of blue smoke and held their ash well. In the Mofongo, the piloto and HVA tobacco in the filler contribute to the cigar’s unique flavors. It uses an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper atop a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Mofongo gets its name from a popular dish throughout the Caribbean that uses mashed plantains as the base, with garlic, olive oil, chicarrón (fried pork belly or fried pork rinds), and other ingredients added in and then generally served alongside a beef broth. It uses uncommon tobaccos, never before used in Viaje cigars. Definitely worth your time to try!
