Detailed description
The My Father story begins in Cuba, where José “Pepin” Garcia spent decades as a master cigar maker before leaving for the United States in the early 2000s. After arriving in Miami, Pepin quickly built a reputation by producing small batch cigars for Pete Johnson’s Tatuaje brand, then landed major contracts to produce San Cristobal and La Aroma de Cuba for the owners of Ashton. As demand skyrocketed, Jaime Garcia began working in secret on a blend he intended to name “My Father” all along, selecting each leaf by hand from the family’s own Nicaraguan farms to create a cigar worthy of honoring the man who taught him everything about tobacco.
When Pepin discovered the project earlier than planned, the cigar’s quality spoke for itself. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, chosen by Jaime for its reddish color, oil content, and ability to marry beautifully with the robust Nicaraguan binder and fillers underneath. Every tobacco in the core comes from Garcia family estates, where Cuban seed varietals are grown and processed using the same painstaking methods Pepin learned in his homeland. The result is a cigar that feels like a direct link to Cuban cigar making tradition, transplanted into Nicaraguan soil and perfected over generations.
From first light, My Father opens with a burst of black pepper, roasted nuts, and cedar, thick, creamy smoke that announces its full bodied intent without hesitation. Within the first inch, dark espresso, leather, and a cocoa sweetness emerge, creating a profile that balances power and refinement in equal measure. Through the second third, the pepper settles into a background role while sweet spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar take center stage over a base of earth and toasted bread. The retrohale is meaty, complex, and peppery, with notes of dark coffee and oak that reward slow, attentive smoking. In the final third, leather deepens, charred wood and earth push forward, and the finish lengthens into a rich, satisfying close where the Habano Rosado wrapper’s natural sweetness provides the final note of elegance.
Construction is exemplary across all three vitolas. The triple seam cap cuts cleanly, the draw offers ideal resistance, the burn line stays true with no corrections needed, and the ash is light grey, firm, and holds for impressive lengths. For the Lancero, the thinner ring gauge concentrates the Habano Rosado’s influence and intensifies the pepper and cedar notes, while the Robusto provides a broader, creamier experience with more room for the filler’s sweetness and earth to develop. My Father remains a cornerstone of the Garcia portfolio and one of the cigars that serious aficionados return to year after year as a benchmark for what Nicaraguan tobacco can achieve in skilled hands.

Fantastic. Just what My Father cigars should be, bold and peppery, full or cedars goodness, and built like tanks. Gorgeous wrapper and construction on these. I find the Pepns cigars to be some of the most beautifully presented cigars in the world, the wrappers always look fantastic, and they put out some really nice boxes and bands. Big points for presentation.
As for the flavor and strength, this is assertive but not overpowering if you like stronger cigars. I have a mind to stash a box of these at the bottom of my humidor, I strongly suspect that they would be like fine wine.

My Father is always a solid choice and I enjoy a lot of their blends. The #4 lancero is one of my favorites of all time so I thought I’d try the robusto to compare. It did not disappoint. I’m getting cedar, hay and some Graham cracker. There is some inherent sweetness from the wrapper that reminds me of honey and brown sugar. The construction was absolutely on point. Great draw, smoke production and burn. MF flys a little low on my radar and it really shouldn’t as they make great sticks and I’ve never been disappointed. Great value on this!

My father Lancero’s reputation precede it. My expectations were high. The flavours did not disappoint. Starting from 10% in, the complexity really shines. However this cigar is a nicotine bomb! I havent been smoking cigars for too long but am certainly no newcomer, yet by half way through I was struggling to continue. Every puff was destroying me. This is the first time Ive put down a cigar halfway due to the strength of it. Your miles might vary as my other 2 friends who were smoking it with me didnt have similar issues. But you have been warned! For myself, think it will be a long time before I forget the memory and light another one up.
