The Aniversario Connecticut marks a significant evolution in Aganorsa’s celebrated Aniversario series, which began in 2013 as limited annual releases from their boutique Miami factory. The series showcased custom-tuned blends in unique vitolas, eventually transitioning to regular production with the addition of this Connecticut variation in 2023. While “Aniversario” translates to anniversary in Spanish, this cigar transcends special occasions to become an everyday luxury for the discerning smoker.
This blend features an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper cultivated under persistent cloud cover, creating a naturally filtered growing environment that produces thinner, more elastic leaves with exceptional smoothness. Unlike its Connecticut Valley counterpart, Ecuador’s volcanic soil and unique microclimate impart a slightly richer, silkier character to the wrapper, with a beautiful golden-brown to cinnamon hue that catches light with a subtle sheen.
Beneath this elegant wrapper lies a core of Aganorsa’s proprietary Nicaraguan tobaccos, including a dual-binder construction of Criollo ’98 from Estelà and fillers combining Corojo from both Jalapa and EstelÃ. This careful selection represents the best of Nicaragua’s diverse terroir, with Jalapa contributing natural sweetness and smoothness while Estelà adds robust earthiness and complexity. The result is a Connecticut-wrapped cigar that breaks the mold of typical mild offerings, delivering unexpected depth and character.
The smoking experience opens with a burst of black pepper spice that quickly mellows to reveal layers of toasted cedar, creamy almonds, and subtle earth. As the cigar develops, notes of dark fruit sweetness emerge alongside leather, hickory, and a distinctive nougat quality. The retrohale offers white pepper with buttery smoothness, while the finish presents lingering cedar and cashew notes. This is not your typical Connecticut cigar; it maintains medium to medium-plus body throughout, with flavors intensifying rather than diminishing as it progresses.
Production takes place at Aganorsa’s state-of-the-art Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A. factory in EstelÃ, where experienced Cuban rollers, including Level 9 masters trained in the most challenging vitolas, ensure impeccable construction. The box-pressed format not only provides comfortable hand feel but also concentrates flavors and ensures excellent burn performance throughout the smoking session.

What makes the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Connecticut different from typical Connecticut cigars?
This Connecticut breaks the mild stereotype with its fuller body and complex flavor profile featuring black pepper, earth, dark fruit sweetness, and toasted cedar. The all-Nicaraguan core and box-pressed format create a Connecticut experience with unexpected depth and intensity.
How does the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper affect the flavor?
Ecuador’s volcanic soil and natural cloud cover produce a slightly richer, silkier wrapper than traditional Connecticut Shade. This imparts creamy almond notes, subtle sweetness, and a smooth texture while allowing the robust Nicaraguan core flavors to shine through.
What is the significance of Cuban rollers at the Aganorsa factory?
Aganorsa employs Level 9 Cuban master rollers, the highest classification for cigar makers trained in Cuba. These experts specialize in challenging formats and ensure each box-pressed Aniversario Connecticut meets the strictest construction standards.
Which vitola best showcases the Aniversario Connecticut blend?
The Robusto (5 x 54) provides an ideal balance of wrapper-to-filler ratio, allowing both the Connecticut wrapper’s smoothness and the Nicaraguan core’s complexity to harmonize perfectly during a 60-75 minute smoke.
How should I pair the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Connecticut?
The cigar’s cedar, almond, and dark fruit notes pair excellently with medium-roast coffee, aged rum, or bourbon. For afternoon enjoyment, consider pairing with craft beer, particularly wheat beers or lighter stouts that complement its creamy texture.
Does the box-pressed format affect the smoking experience?
Box-pressing concentrates flavors, provides comfortable grip, and ensures consistent burn performance. The format also creates slightly cooler smoke and may intensify the cigar’s natural sweetness and cedar notes.
What is the best storage method for these cigars?
Store at 65-68% humidity to preserve the delicate Connecticut wrapper’s elasticity. The box-pressed format benefits from careful positioning in your humidor to maintain shape. Allow 2-4 weeks of rest after shipping for optimal flavor integration.
Is this suitable for Connecticut wrapper beginners?
While approachable, this fuller-bodied Connecticut may surprise those expecting a typical mild profile. New Connecticut smokers should expect more intensity, making it perfect for graduating from milder cigars to more complex blends.

Really enjoyed the cedar and nutty flavors on this one. I had some issues with uneven burn but may have been my fault. overall flavors were good.

I tried the connecticult and Corojo on the same day. They are just like twins, the connecticult lighter in profile. Taste is also absolutely the same. Construction is flawless, one of the best i’ve seen. However 3 stars because the flavour is very much an ordinary Nicaraguan style stick. Nothing here I can’t buy for half the price.

I love pretty much everything that aganorsa puts out. Whether it’s Connecticut to corojo all of them are delicious. This was absolutely fantastic to smoke. I like that I get those classic hay, cedar and almond flavors. There was a bit of strength behind this but never getting above medium +. The box press on this gives a great mouth feel. The construction was great and I smoked this all the way to the nub. Definitely box worthy!
