The Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection emerged from Eduardo Fernandez’s original vision when he arrived in Nicaragua in 1998 with a dream to recreate the essence of golden-era Cuban cigars. Assembling a team of Cuba’s most experienced agronomists who had worked at the highest levels of Cubatobaco for over half a century, Fernandez established Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A., better known as Aganorsa. This agricultural powerhouse now grows tobacco on thousands of acres across Nicaragua’s premier regions, supplying leaf to many of the industry’s most respected brands.
What sets the Signature Selection apart is the inclusion of medio tiempo, the small, intensely flavorful leaves that occasionally sprout above the corona priming on select tobacco plants. These rare leaves appear on only a small percentage of plants and provide unmatched richness and depth. Each cigar contains precisely half a leaf of this precious tobacco, carefully integrated into a blend of Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 fillers that have been aged for seven years before rolling.
The natural version features a stunning Rosado Claro Corojo ’99 wrapper that displays a silky texture with light veining and a beautiful cinnamon-brown to golden hue. The Maduro variant showcases an unusual Nicaraguan shade-grown Corojo ’99 wrapper from Jalapa, fermented to achieve a dark chocolate color while maintaining the signature Aganorsa sweetness. Both versions utilize a Corojo ’99 binder that perfectly complements the aged filler blend.
Upon lighting, the Signature Selection delivers immediate complexity with notes of roasted nuts, particularly cashews and peanuts, accompanied by toasted bread and leather undertones. The medio tiempo contributes a distinctive richness that elevates the entire profile, adding layers of earth, cedar, and subtle mocha. As the cigar progresses, flavors of dark fruit sweetness emerge, balanced by the signature Aganorsa spicy-sweet character that fans have come to expect. The Maduro version adds notes of dark chocolate, black cherry, and aged wood to this already complex foundation.
Production takes place at Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA) in Estelí, a factory that has earned consecutive Factory of the Year honors and produces cigars for prestigious brands including Illusione, Warped, and Foundation. Under the supervision of Cuban-trained masters, each cigar receives meticulous attention to construction, resulting in perfect draws, straight burn lines, and solid ash formation throughout the smoking experience.

What is medio tiempo and why is it special?
Medio tiempo consists of small leaves that occasionally grow above the ligero priming at the very top of select tobacco plants. These rare leaves offer exceptional richness, strength, and flavor concentration, appearing on only a small percentage of plants.
How does seven years of aging affect the Signature Selection?
The extended aging period allows the diverse tobaccos to marry completely, mellowing any harsh edges while developing buttery smoothness and complex tertiary flavors like aged leather, cedar, and subtle sweetness that only time can create.
What distinguishes the Shade Grown Maduro version?
Unlike typical maduros using Mexican or Connecticut leaves, this features a proprietary Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 grown under shade in Jalapa. This unique process creates a naturally sweet, earthy maduro character while maintaining distinct Nicaraguan flavor characteristics.
Which vitola best represents the Signature Selection blend?
The Corona Gorda (6 x 44) offers an ideal wrapper-to-filler ratio that showcases both the aged wrapper’s nuances and the complex filler blend, including the medio tiempo’s richness, during a 75-minute smoking session.
How should I store these premium aged cigars?
Maintain 65-68% humidity to preserve the seven-year aged tobaccos’ delicate balance. These cigars benefit from at least two weeks of rest after shipping, though their extensive pre-rolling aging means they’re enjoyable immediately.
What makes TABSA factory production special?
TABSA earned consecutive Factory of the Year honors through meticulous quality control, Cuban-trained rollers, and collaboration with boutique brands. The factory’s expertise ensures each Signature Selection meets the highest construction standards.
How do I identify authentic Signature Selection cigars?
Look for gold foil paper covering the lower half of natural versions, silver foil for maduros, plus the distinctive dual-band system. Each box includes an authentication seal verifying the release’s legitimacy.
What beverages pair best with the Signature Selection?
The nutty, earthy profile pairs excellently with aged rum, single malt Scotch, or bourbon. The natural version complements coffee perfectly, while the maduro’s chocolate notes enhance port wine or imperial stout pairings.

Nice nutty and creamy flavor profile well made and burned well. I had this with some Sherry and a tequila old fashioned and paired well.

I really like most of the stuff aganorsa puts out…. Especially corojo stuff. So I thought to try this since I’ve never had the chance. 6×44 (corona gorda) really fits my wheelhouse for smaller ring gauge sticks. The flavor on this really popped for me. Got some earthiness, slight spice in the form of red pepper. There was mustiness to this but very enjoyable. The construction was solid. I loved everything about this stick and I felt the smaller ring gauge really elevated the flavors for me on this one. Definitely would smoke again.

Aganorsa signature selection is one that I have since its launch done my best to keep in my rotation. This is a solid example of superior blending, binding and wrapping. Being a “toro size guy” this is my vitola of choice. This is a cigar that for years now has not let me down. The re-issue is almost indistinguishable from the original, which from experience I realize is hard to do. Kudos to Aganorsa for pulling it off and not disappointing me with this release. Enjoy!

Nutty and smooth, with a nice general tobacco flavor. I’d smoke it again.
