AVO Syncro Nicaragua Fogata
The AVO Syncro Nicaragua Fogata brings together the bold intensity of Nicaraguan tobacco with the creamy refinement that defines the AVO brand. Named after the Spanish word for bonfire, Fogata captures the warmth, energy, and camaraderie of friends gathered around flames. Master blender Henke Kelner created this extension of the Syncro Nicaragua line to deliver a fuller, spicier experience while maintaining the approachable balance that AVO built its reputation upon.
Avo Uvezian founded his eponymous brand in 1987 after partnering with Hendrik Kelner at the Oettinger Kelner Cigars factory in the Dominican Republic. Davidoff acquired the distribution rights in 1995 for an estimated $10 million, and the brand has grown to become one of the most respected names in premium cigars. The Fogata line represents a bolder direction for AVO, blending Estelà and Condega tobaccos from Nicaragua with softer Dominican leaf to create something complex yet balanced.

Blend Composition and Tobacco Origins
The Fogata wrapper is an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 Clara with an orangish medium brown color and oily sheen. This thin, delicate leaf feels smooth with slight tooth and burns evenly throughout the smoke. Beneath the wrapper sits a Mexican San Andrés negro binder grown in volcanic soil near the Gulf of Mexico, chosen specifically for its ability to add body and spice without harshness.
The filler tobaccos represent two distinct growing regions. From Nicaragua come Estelà ligero and Condega visos, prized for their intensity and pepper characteristics. The Dominican components include Yamasa viso, Piloto, and San Vicente ligero, each contributing body and subtle sweetness. This combination of aggressive Nicaraguan leaf tempered by mild Dominican tobacco creates a profile that hits hard yet remains approachable.
Flavor Profile Throughout the Smoke
Opening notes deliver vibrant pepper and spice that announce the Fogata’s intentions immediately. After the first few puffs, the pepper recedes and gives way to honey, cedar, cinnamon, and earth. The characteristic AVO creaminess emerges as a foundation that carries the bolder flavors without letting them overwhelm. Retrohale produces significant pepper in the early going, transitioning to citrus and nutty notes as the cigar progresses.
The body sits firmly in the full category with flavors of coffee, salt, milk chocolate, wood, and black pepper developing through the middle portion. Floral and pine notes peek through the profile periodically, adding unexpected dimension. The finish is long and creamy with interplay between sweetness and spice keeping the palate engaged. Total smoking time runs 45 to 60 minutes for the Robusto and longer for larger ring gauges.

I really enjoyed this one. It starts off with a pretty good kick of spice and pepper right after you light it, it smoothes out really nicely after the first inch. The middle part was my favorite, mostly tasting like cedar wood and coffee with a little bit of sweetness. The construction was excellent, not unexpected from AVO. It burned evenly the whole time and I never had to relight it. A solid medium-strength cigar that fits perfectly with a morning coffee. I find it similar to the Davidoff Nicaragua.

The AVO Syncro Nicaragua Fogata offers a rich and complex flavor profile that keeps you engaged from start to finish. It opens with notes of sight sweetness, leather, wood, and earthy undertones, layered with hints of coffee and light chocolate for a smooth, bold experience. An intriguing citrus note—reminiscent of lime —adds a surprising twist, elevating the overall complexity. With a medium to full-bodied strength, this cigar delivers a satisfying and dynamic smoke. It’s a fantastic addition to any humidor, and I’m thrilled to have picked up a box!

Love these little flavor bombs. From this I get honey graham cracker, toasted nuts and cedar. There is a hint of baking spice from this with a little more earthiness. A really flavorful stick from Avo. I’ve had other vitolas in this blend and this was as good as the others. I could tell their was a lot age on these as well which made them even more delicious. Construction was spot on. Will continue to keep these in my rotation.
