Echoing what another reviewer said, I noticed what seemed like Cuban notes in this cigar – lots of manufacturers like to bill their cigar as ‘Cuban-esque’ but very few get anywhere near what a genuine one tastes like. This cigar does not purport to be ‘Cuban-esque’, but it distinctly reminded me of my favourite Cuban, the Montecristo No. 1 – it has a sourdough bread note on the sides of the palate, and a mocha coffee flavour, mixed with prominent spices (not pepper but rather something more exotic). There are several distinct transitions throughout this cigar, and in my view, it is best enjoyed with something like a sparkling mineral water with just a hint of lemon or lime as a palate cleanser. The cigar is rich, medium bodied, medium strength, and very complex. I admit that Caldwell is one of my top three favourite cigar brands so you may read some bias into this if you like, but a number of independent cigar reviewers rate this piece highly – I’d have to agree with them. Expensive but worth it (I bought an entire box of the corona gorda size).

Honesty the first 10 puffs got me wondering if there are cuban tobaccos in it. However afterwards the spiciness kicked up two notches and it started to taste more like a nicaraguan. There are still cuban elements of it in the retrohale. This is a good cigar except I find the spice to be too much for me to handle, I had to slip a drink every 2 puffs or so. I think with a few years of age on this cigar, it would tame the spice and the taste could be phenomenon. For a spice lover, this is a winner right now!
