Crowned Heads Yellow Rose
The Yellow Rose emerges from the acclaimed partnership between Crowned Heads and the Garcia family at My Father Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua. This box-pressed torpedo represents more than a regional exclusive for Texas retailers. The cigar pays homage to the traditional folk song that Confederate soldiers in the Texas Brigade adopted as their marching anthem during the Civil War. General John Bell Hood himself introduced “The Yellow Rose of Texas” to the Army of Tennessee in July 1864, establishing a cultural connection that Crowned Heads now celebrates in tobacco form.

The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper presents a milk chocolate brown appearance with prominent veins and a rustic texture that speaks to its authentic processing. The box-pressed format creates sharp edges and flat surfaces that feel substantial in hand. Construction quality reflects the meticulous standards of the My Father factory, where each torpedo receives individual attention during the pressing process.
Upon lighting, the Yellow Rose delivers immediate complexity with creamy cedar and orange citrus notes taking the lead position. Dark chocolate emerges alongside espresso bean characteristics, while leather and earth provide a foundational backbone. The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper contributes a natural molasses sweetness that balances the Nicaraguan tobacco’s inherent spice. As the cigar progresses, red pepper appears on the finish, particularly prominent during the final third.
The retrohale reveals vanilla sweetness that persists throughout the smoking experience, complemented by occasional saltiness on the lips. Medium to full-bodied strength builds gradually, reaching its peak during the final portion without overwhelming the flavor nuances. Smoke production remains voluminous from start to finish, with burn performance typically requiring minimal corrections. Total smoking time averages one hour and thirty minutes for the complete experience.

What makes Crowned Heads Yellow Rose a Texas exclusive?
The Yellow Rose honors Texas heritage through its connection to the state’s traditional folk song. Crowned Heads restricts distribution primarily to Texas retailers, with only one annual opportunity for nationwide retailers to acquire limited quantities. This exclusivity strategy mirrors their Tennessee Waltz and Hawaiian Paniolo Especial releases.
How does the box-pressed format affect the smoking experience?
Box-pressing creates concentrated flavor delivery through the squared edges while maintaining consistent burn characteristics. The flat surfaces provide comfortable grip and the pressing process helps marry the wrapper and binder tobaccos more thoroughly. Draw resistance typically remains optimal despite the compression.
What flavor profile should I expect from the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper?
Connecticut Broadleaf contributes dark chocolate, espresso, and natural molasses sweetness. The wrapper’s rustic processing adds earthiness and leather notes while maintaining smoothness. Combined with Nicaraguan tobaccos, expect medium-full body with balanced spice and complexity throughout.
Is Yellow Rose similar to other Crowned Heads releases?
The Yellow Rose shares its basic blend composition with Tennessee Waltz and Paniolo Especial, using the same Connecticut Broadleaf over Nicaraguan components. Each vitola creates distinct smoking characteristics. The box-pressed torpedo format provides unique flavor concentration compared to the round Tennessee Waltz toro.
When can retailers outside Texas purchase Yellow Rose?
Crowned Heads designates one specific day annually when retailers nationwide can order Yellow Rose. This limited window creates scarcity and maintains the cigar’s regional exclusive status. Texas retailers receive priority access throughout the year, with production quantities remaining intentionally restricted.
What construction quality can I expect from My Father factory production?
My Father Cigars S.A. maintains exceptional construction standards under Garcia family oversight. Expect consistent draw resistance, even burn lines requiring minimal correction, and solid ash formation. The box-pressing process receives particular attention, creating uniform shape and optimal tobacco compression.
How long should I age Yellow Rose before smoking?
Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper benefits from several months of rest after purchase. The oils integrate more fully with the Nicaraguan tobaccos, smoothing any rough edges. Six months to one year of proper humidor storage typically optimizes flavor development, though the cigars smoke well upon release.
What occasions pair well with Yellow Rose?
The medium-full profile and 90-minute smoking duration suit extended relaxation periods. Texas barbecue gatherings, bourbon tastings, or evening contemplation sessions complement the cigar’s robust character. The regional exclusivity makes it particularly appropriate for celebrating Texas heritage or sharing with fellow enthusiasts.

When I’m craving something bold, balanced, and some what complex flavors too….This is it. Wood, light pepper, nutty tones, coffee, dark chocolate at the finish.

Great smoke! I’m a sucker for box pressed and almost anything CH puts out. This one was great. Tons of dark chocolate, bitter espresso, almost a raisin flavor and minimal pepper. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed the heck out of this! Nice dark flavors coming from this. Leather, dark chocolate and some earthy notes that play in the background. The draw on this a tad tighter than I like but that would be splitting hairs at this point. The cigar smokes perfectly. There is a sweetness I’m getting from the wrapper in an almost molasses flavor. Really good stuff here from CH. Super stoked to see all this goodness on oxford!

Really good stuff. Tons of broadleaf flavor here, it’s really the showcase of this cigar. Medium strength, medium full body and flavor. Not a ton of pepper or spice to be found but it’s not boring either, definitely keeps you engaged all the way through. Earth and leather are in the background, but the sweetness of the wrapper shines through more than anything. Nice dark chocolate notes here, too.
