Curivari Buenaventura Favoritos Connecticut
When Andreas Throuvalas first envisioned the Buenaventura Favoritos line, he sought to capture that elusive Cuban essence while offering exceptional value to enthusiasts worldwide. The Connecticut expression represents years of refinement at Tabacalera de Nicaragua S.A., where skilled artisans meticulously craft each cigar using specially tweaked Nicaraguan tobaccos selected to complement the silky Ecuadorian Connecticut seed wrapper. This latest release extends the celebrated Buenaventura portfolio into accessible territory without sacrificing the brand’s commitment to old-world craftsmanship.
Premium Features & Craftsmanship

- Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos specifically tweaked for balance

- Triple cap construction using traditional Cuban methods

The Favoritos Connecticut emerges from a boutique philosophy that prioritizes flavor harmony over aggressive strength profiles. Each cigar showcases the nuanced characteristics of Connecticut shade tobacco, including notes of toasted bread, cashews, and subtle cedar undertones. The Ecuadorian wrapper leaf, grown under ideal cloud cover conditions, contributes a natural sweetness that distinguishes this blend from its Natural and Maduro siblings in the Favoritos series.
Construction quality remains paramount throughout the production process. Every cigar undergoes meticulous inspection before leaving the factory floor. The draw resistance consistently delivers optimal airflow, while the burn line progresses evenly without requiring constant attention or corrections. This attention to detail reflects Curivari’s boutique approach, where small-batch production allows for greater quality control compared to mass-market alternatives.
The smoking experience reveals layers of flavor complexity rarely found at this price point. Opening notes of sweet cream and toasted bread establish a welcoming foundation. As the cigar progresses, subtle spice notes emerge through the retrohale, complemented by hints of oak and leather that add depth without overwhelming the palate. The final third maintains consistency while introducing light earth tones and a pleasant nuttiness that rounds out the profile beautifully.

How does the Curivari Buenaventura Favoritos Connecticut compare to other Connecticut cigars?
The Favoritos Connecticut distinguishes itself through its Nicaraguan core tobaccos, which provide more body and complexity than typical Dominican or Honduran Connecticut blends. While maintaining the characteristic smoothness of Connecticut shade wrappers, it delivers additional depth through carefully selected Nicaraguan ligeros that add subtle spice notes not commonly found in comparable offerings.
What makes this cigar ideal for morning smoking?
The mild to medium strength profile combined with creamy, sweet notes creates an approachable experience that won’t overwhelm your palate early in the day. The prominent flavors of toasted bread and cashews pair exceptionally well with coffee, while the smooth draw and even burn require minimal attention during your morning routine.
How long should I expect each size to smoke?
The 5 x 50 robusto typically provides 45 to 50 minutes of smoking time, while the 6 x 54 toro extends the experience to approximately 60 to 70 minutes. These durations assume a moderate smoking pace with proper rest between draws to maintain optimal flavor development.
Are these cigars suitable for aging?
While the Connecticut wrapper will develop additional smoothness with time, these cigars are crafted to be enjoyed upon purchase. The blend achieves its intended balance through careful tobacco selection and factory aging. If you choose to age them, maintain humidity between 65-68% to preserve the wrapper’s delicate characteristics.
What distinguishes the yellow box from other Favoritos packaging?
Curivari uses color-coded packaging across the Favoritos line, with yellow boxes exclusively denoting the Connecticut blend, red for the Natural wrapper version, and blue for the Maduro. This system allows quick identification while maintaining the brand’s classic aesthetic inspired by pre-embargo Cuban packaging traditions.
How does the draw resistance compare to other Curivari lines?
The Favoritos Connecticut maintains the signature Curivari draw, which tends toward the open side while avoiding being too loose. This construction choice ensures generous smoke production and allows the subtle Connecticut wrapper flavors to shine without requiring excessive effort during the draw.
Can beginners enjoy this cigar?
Absolutely. The mild to medium profile, consistent construction, and balanced flavor make it an excellent introduction to premium Nicaraguan cigars. The forgiving nature of the Connecticut wrapper prevents harsh notes even if smoked too quickly, while the complexity rewards those developing their palates.
What beverages pair best with the Favoritos Connecticut?
Light roast coffee accentuates the natural sweetness, while champagne or prosecco creates an elegant afternoon pairing. For non-alcoholic options, green tea or sparkling water with lemon allows the subtle tobacco flavors to remain prominent without competing elements.

Curivari is a sleeper brand that I think most people sleep on – their original Buenaventura line is one of my all-time favorite budget smokes for sure. That being said, I got curious with the latest of the 3 – blue, red, and yellow bands. The Connecticut (yellow) was the most flavorful out of the 3 in my opinion. Very smooth and creamy, as I look for those notes in particular with Connecticuts.

Very mild with notes of cashews and light wood and just a touch of pepper. The follow is short with hints of paper. Probably won’t make anyone’s best of the year list, but a very decent smoke and a great value at the price.

Curivari does a terrific job with construction and delivery of flavors. Not the most interesting flavors but easy to smoke with plenty of sweetness and nutty notes.

This was a surprise. When I saw the new drop from Curivari, I picked up a few to try. I’m not much of a connie smoker usually, but this one really surprised me. There is a velvety sweetness and great toasted bread notes that ramp up as the smoke builds. I went back and grabbed a full box of these, and you should too if you’re looking for a great smoke at a great price.
