Tasting Notes
The Capitulo II delivers a complex flavor profile characterized by rich notes of earth and leather that remain consistent throughout the smoke. Initial puffs reveal a distinctive spicy barbecue note on the retrohale accompanied by black pepper that gradually mellows. As the cigar progresses, expect to encounter flavors of almonds, toast, and anise, with dark cocoa notes emerging in the final third. A subtle sweetness weaves throughout the experience, complemented by hints of cedar and hay toward the finish.
Construction & Design
Like its predecessor, the Capitulo II features La Flor Dominicana’s signature Chisel cap – a wedge-shaped head that creates a unique smoking experience. The box-pressed format enhances the draw while the dark reddish-brown Nicaraguan Colorado wrapper offers a glossy, slightly veiny appearance with minimal blemishes. The cigar is densely packed, providing a substantial two-hour smoking experience with excellent construction throughout.
The Story Behind Capitulo II
Following the success of Chapter One, Tony Gomez created Capitulo II (Spanish for “Chapter Two”) as the second installment in his blending series. The name “Capitulo” was chosen to distinguish it from the Casa Miranda Chapter Two released in 2013. While maintaining the same vitola as Chapter One, Capitulo II features a completely different blend, showcasing Tony’s ambitious pursuit of power and flavor. Released in 2014, this cigar continues the legacy of innovation that defines the Gomez family’s approach to cigarmaking.
Smoking Experience
The Capitulo II offers an excellent draw that requires no cutter – simply pinch the sides of the chisel head to create an opening. Expect generous smoke production throughout the experience, with a burn line that may occasionally become jagged but self-corrects. The white ash holds firm, and the cigar maintains its complexity from first light to final puff. For optimal enjoyment, this cigar is best savored after a meal, as its full-bodied nature intensifies toward the final third.

These are so freaking good. Tons of fresh cedar and pepper, and a mushrooms earthy savory notes beneath. It’s also just one of the most athletically pleasing cigars out there in my opinion, not as something super refined with a perfect smooth Davidoff wrapper, but it has that beautiful rustic Colorado wrapper, and the chisel to top it off. They smoke great and taste great, and these things burn forever. I could get 2.5 hours out of one if I took my time.
