The H99 Wrapper
The “H99” name refers to the cigar’s hybrid wrapper leaf — a Corojo seed varietal cultivated in the Connecticut River Valley, a region historically known for shade-grown Connecticut wrappers. This unconventional pairing of a Cuban-heritage seed with American terroir produces a leaf that is distinctly different from anything else in the Liga Privada portfolio. The result is an oily, reddish-brown Colorado wrapper that delivers naturally sweet tobacco spice while retaining a rugged, full-flavored character.
Beneath the wrapper lies a Mexican San Andrés Negro binder — a dark, rich tobacco from one of Mexico’s most celebrated growing regions. The filler blend draws from three countries: Nicaraguan and Honduran long-filler tobaccos provide the backbone of the blend’s earthy, peppery core, while Pennsylvania broadleaf adds a uniquely American depth and subtle sweetness that ties the entire composition together.
Flavor Profile
The H99 opens with an immediate blast of red and white pepper that quickly gives way to a deep, dark chocolate richness. An espresso core runs through the entire smoking experience, complemented by notes of cedar, leather, oak, and rye. As the cigar progresses, creaminess and subtle citrus zest emerge, adding unexpected nuance to the bold foundation. The retrohale delivers concentrated mineral and spice notes throughout.
The final third intensifies with espresso bean and black pepper pulsing through to the nub, while undertones of hay, poblano, and cayenne keep the palate fully engaged. Many reviewers compare the H99’s savory, meaty umami quality to a premium steak — a rare descriptor in cigar reviews that speaks to the blend’s unique character. The smoke output is impressive and the aroma is exceptional.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does H99 stand for?
H99 refers to the cigar’s hybrid wrapper leaf — a Corojo seed varietal uniquely cultivated in the Connecticut River Valley, blending Cuban-heritage genetics with American growing conditions.
How does the H99 compare to the Liga Privada No. 9 and T52?
While the No. 9 features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and the T52 uses Stalk Cut Habano, the H99 introduces a hybrid Connecticut Corojo wrapper that creates a distinctly different flavor profile with more red pepper spice and espresso character.
Is the Liga Privada H99 a limited edition?
The H99 is technically classified as regular production — the first Liga Privada blend to achieve that status since 2009 — but allocation remains extremely limited, making it difficult to find in many markets.
What flavors can I expect from the H99?
Dominant flavors include espresso, dark chocolate, cedar, leather, red and white pepper, rye, and oak, with undertones of creaminess and citrus zest that develop as the cigar progresses.
What sizes does the Liga Privada H99 come in?
The H99 is available in six vitolas: Petit Corona (4½ x 44), Gordito (4⅛ x 60), Robusto (5 x 54), Toro (6 x 52), Super Ancho (6 x 60), and Double Corona (7 x 54).
Where is the Liga Privada H99 made?
It is handcrafted at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in EstelÃ, Nicaragua, the same factory responsible for all Liga Privada blends.
What makes the Connecticut Corojo wrapper unique?
The wrapper uses a Corojo seed — traditionally a Cuban varietal — grown in the Connecticut River Valley. This unusual pairing of Cuban-heritage genetics with New England terroir produces a distinctive oily, reddish-brown leaf unlike any other Liga Privada wrapper.
What drinks pair well with the Liga Privada H99?
The H99’s bold espresso and pepper-forward profile pairs exceptionally well with strong bourbon, black coffee, or aged rum. The cigar’s intensity and savory character complement robust, full-flavored beverages.

Powerful stuff. I still prefer the T52 and the no. 9 over this, both strong cigars in their own right but not on this leve of spice and strength. It is still a good cigar don’t get me wrong, and. Appreciate it much more in this robusto than I did as a toro, it just got to be overwhelming when I smoked that much of it. The shorter vitola made me enjoy the experience a lot more.

I love the no.9 and the T52. Was very excited because I love corojo cigars. This cigar smokes wonderfully. Good flavor, great draw and burn. Provided good smoke output. Just wish there was a little bit more on this for that spice and earthiness that I’ve come to expect from a corojo wrapped cigar. I enjoyed the last third the most in this cigar. That’s when the power and flavor ramped up for me. This is a very good cigar but I just wanted a little more to push it to 5 stars.

If you like the any of the other liga cigars you sure will like this one to. This one is a little bolder then it’s counter part. The burn is flawless and the construction is as great as expected just like the any other of the ligas. You get the perfect blend of chocolate and a little black pepper to keep you Interested a d keep you coming back for another one.

Of the two No 9 and T52, I prefer the No 9 Liga Privada. Having said that, H99 feels like a notch stronger in body than its counterpart the T52. It has a similar nicotine punch but delivered with more weight in its chewy smoke. It is a full flavored from start to finish. It has a longer finish on the flavor notes. The flavor notes I got were black pepper, slight chocolate and cinnamon.

If you’re a fan of the No 9 or the t52 you will surely enjoy the h99. Flawless construction, heavy billowing smoke, in your face flavor, this cigar has all the hallmarks you’ve come to love from drew estate. I actually think this blend would benefit from a skinnier Vitola, let’s see some corona vivas and maybe knock this review up to 5 stars
