The El Loquito opens with an explosive combination of black pepper, red pepper, and jalapeño heat that immediately announces its full-throttle intentions. The unique shaggy foot design allows you to taste the pure Nicaraguan filler blend for the first inch before the maduro wrapper joins the symphony, adding layers of dark chocolate, espresso, and molasses sweetness.
As this pocket rocket progresses, expect waves of earth, cedar, dark fruit, and roasted coffee beans intertwined with persistent spice. The shade-grown Corojo wrapper contributes notes of leather, cream, and subtle raisin sweetness that help balance the intense pepper backbone. I like the dark corojo flavors here, it really reminds me of a mesquite wood. Add in a healthy dose of coffee and chocolate and it makes a very nice cigar. It burned a little wonky, but most perfectos do in my experience.
