As the cigar progresses, espresso beans emerge alongside sweet earth and barnyard nuances, creating layers that distinguish this from typical Dominican profiles. The middle section introduces powdery cocoa, leather, and distinctive sourdough bread notes balanced by cherry sweetness that adds brightness to the earthier elements.
The retrohale brings black pepper accents and subtle maple sweetness, creating dimension beyond the primary palate flavors. Reviewers consistently praise the gentle mushroom earthiness and moderate pepper that builds throughout without overwhelming the refined balance. I found the Red Anchor to be an easy, enjoyable smoke. The draw was open and consistent, and the burn stayed mostly even with only one minor touch-up needed. Smoke production was solid and never felt hot or rushed. Flavor-wise, it opened with smooth cedar and light earth, then settled into notes of coffee, cocoa, and a mild spice as it progressed. The strength stayed medium throughout and never turned harsh toward the end. Overall, the Red Anchor delivered good construction, a reliable burn, and balanced flavors—an approachable cigar I’d comfortably smoke again.

The is a delicious cigar. It’s medium bodied and medium flavor, but the flavor is complex and fantastic. Cherry sweetness, mushroom earthiness, plenty of cedar, and a little pepper spice way in the background. It burned well and burned slow, which was great because I was enjoying every second of it. If you are a fan of Atabey this is pretty close. Davidoff also comes to mind obviously, but it’s not quite as earthy and has more of that cherry sweetness that I find in Atabey.
