Tatuaje Surrogates Skull Breaker
Tatuaje Surrogates Skull Breaker is a powerhouse blend from Pete Johnson, crafted for those who crave uncompromising strength and bold flavor in every draw. Produced by the Garcia family at My Father Cigar Factory in Nicaragua, this full-bodied cigar is a robust declaration of the Surrogates line’s commitment to intensity, quality, and dynamic presentation.
- Full-bodied, strength-forward profile – Black pepper, bitter espresso, oak, and leather dominate the flavor landscape, delivering powerful taste with every puff.
- Diverse wrappers across the Surrogates line – The Skull Breaker variation is known for its Connecticut Broadleaf, but the lineup includes Mexican San Andres and Ecuadorian Habano options, offering nuanced takes on the central theme of intensity.
- Minimal transitions – Designed for a consistent, straight-ahead punch, rather than an evolving or complex experience. The retrohale is especially intense—expect burning spice and a touch of black cherry that quickly fades.
- Impeccable construction – Crafted by the renowned Garcia family, the Skull Breaker boasts a reliable burn, firm ash, and perfect draw every time, ensuring a satisfying, uninterrupted session.
- Distinctive cabinet box packaging – Each stick comes in a sophisticated 20-count box for storage and presentation worthy of Surrogates’ reputation.
This cigar is not for the timid or for those seeking subtlety and nuance. Instead, Skull Breaker goes full throttle on strength and spice, delivering pronounced black pepper and dark espresso from start to finish. Those who love bold, intense smokes with a “no-nonsense” approach to character will find it satisfying—while aficionados who value complexity and softer transitions may prefer other Tatuaje or My Father blends. The experience is described as engaging and “burn your nostrils intense” on the retrohale, making it a favorite for seasoned palates who want a sense of controlled power rather than intricate transitions.

This cigar is for the most part blended to be a powerhouse. Black pepper is the main taste with some bitter espresso and a touch of woody notes. This cigar for the most part doesn’t transition but my understanding is it was blended to be that way. Just straight full throttle strength/flavor. Just be warned the retro is also intense and burn your nostrils. I love it.

Mostly strength but not much else. I prefer more nuanced cigars that bring some complexity and this for me was definitely strength forward. I get leather, blk coffee and oak. There isn’t any real transitions or evolution to this. On the retro I do get some blk cherry but that fades quickly. The flavors on this are a little rough on the edges. Not my favorite from tatuaje.

Not my favorite. The surrogates stuff is ok, but I feel like they’re just blending for strength without the nuance of the brown or black label stuff. It’s definitely spice and strength forward. Burns and draws nice though.
