PREMIUM WRAPPER AND FILLER:
The cigar is adorned with a shiny, oily Ecuador wrapper, presenting a stunning dark chocolate color that is both inviting and indicative of its depth. The filler, a blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos from the mineral-rich volcanic soils of Condega and EstelÃ, adds an intriguing spiciness and robust character to the cigar. The Nicaraguan Condega visus tobacco, uniquely cask-aged in original Scottish first-fill single malt whisky casks, imparts a mysterious sweetness and complex flavor profile.

This one was a bold little smoke. Great flavor and construction. Peppery to start then smoothed out. Burned a little longer than I had expected and was definitely a typical Davidoff experience which is all I could ask for and more.

I love the Late Hour. It is one of my favorite Davidoff lines they make. I wasn’t in love with this vitola though. It wasn’t awful. It just wasn’t the same for me. I can’t really put my finger on it. Just didn’t smoke the same.

The Late Hour is one of Davidoff’s best lines, but the smallest format that it previously came in was a robusto – these new panatelas display the best aspects of the larger vitolas, condensed into a thirty minute cigar. The cigar takes off like a firework – there’s no gentle crescendo, this is full-on from the get go. I’d compare this smaller-sized cigar to the middle and final two thirds of its larger brethren – leather, spices, scotch cask, cedar, dark chocolate, and chili. Yes – while you do have to ‘look’ for it, the cigar does indeed have a taste that’s reminiscent of oak wood and sherried whisky tannins (it’s truly in there), though it stands in balance to the rest of the flavours as an accent and not as the most dominant note. Body is full, strength is approximately a medium.
My bias toward Davidoff aside, this is an excellent cigar; it is very expensive, but if quality rather than quantity is your priority, these are well worth your money. I’d recommend a lower-ABV sherried Scotch or (even better) a South or Central American coffee (or double espresso) as accompaniment – a glass of water on the side to keep the palate fresh so you don’t miss anything would also be a solid addition.
