Detailed Description
The story of Yagua begins in Cuba, where cigarmakers would roll leaves fresh from the barn and shape their cigars by binding bundles with palm. J.C. Newman has resurrected this nostalgic process at their PENSA factory in Nicaragua thanks to General Manager Lazaro Lopez, whose grandfather’s tradition inspired the concept. Each Yagua is pressed tightly in a bundle while wet, then bound in yagua palm leaves. The cigars emerge with unique, “imperfect” shapes—some round, some multi-sided or triangular—that are both visually striking and deeply reminiscent of vintage Cuban smokes.
The blend features a dark U.S. Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper (under-fermented for extra body), Nicaraguan binder, and bold Nicaraguan fillers. After rolling, the cigars age for a year, allowing the rustic blend to mellow. Expect primary notes of wood, earth, leather, black pepper, and sourdough, accented by sweetness and rustic roasted flavors. Because of their shape and pressing, draw can be a bit irregular, but the payoff is a uniquely rich and earthy flavor profile.
Each bundle contains 20 cigars approximately 6″ x 54, wrapped and shipped in the palm leaf, further enhancing the “time capsule” feel. Yagua is a true artisan’s cigar—perfect for special occasions, sharing with friends, or for anyone who treasures tradition and creative craftsmanship in every draw.
