Born in Pinar del RÃo, Cuba in 1934, Arsenio Ramos dedicated over four decades to Cubatabaco as head of tobacco processing and fermentation before joining Eduardo Fernández at Aganorsa Leaf in 2000. His expertise in traditional Cuban methods transformed Nicaraguan tobacco cultivation, creating the signature Aganorsa flavor profile that defines Guardian of the Farm, JFR Lunatic, and countless other acclaimed releases. This tribute blend specifically recreates the cigar Ramos personally enjoyed during his daily visits to Aganorsa’s fields and factory, making each stick a direct connection to the master himself.
The flavor journey begins with immediate impressions of wood, caramel, baking spices, and leather, enhanced by distinctive red pepper notes and fruity sweetness that characterize premium Jalapa Corojo. The middle third develops rich coffee, walnuts, and cream, creating the balanced complexity Ramos championed throughout his career. The final portion intensifies with espresso, mushroom, and charred wood, maintaining the smooth yet complex character that defines traditional Cuban-style blending. This progression showcases why Cigar Aficionado awarded the Arsenio 92 points, recognizing its exceptional balance of strength and elegance.
Construction excellence reflects Aganorsa’s commitment to honoring their late master blender, with each cigar demonstrating the meticulous standards Ramos instilled. The double binder system using two Criollo ’98 leaves provides exceptional structural integrity while contributing layered complexity. Draw resistance remains consistently ideal across all vitolas, producing thick, aromatic smoke that fills the room with inviting sweetness. The Corona vitola, at 6 x 44, holds special significance as Ramos’ personal favorite size, offering the most authentic experience of his daily smoke.

What makes the Arsenio special beyond being a tribute?
This recreates Arsenio Ramos’ exact personal blend he smoked daily during factory visits, not just a cigar created in his honor. The Corona vitola was specifically his favorite format, making it the most authentic way to experience the master blender’s personal preferences and understanding of ideal tobacco expression.
How does Arsenio Ramos’ Cuban heritage influence this blend?
Ramos spent over 40 years at Cubatabaco specializing in fermentation before bringing those techniques to Nicaragua. This blend showcases traditional Cuban-style complexity with balanced strength, smooth transitions, and the nuanced fermentation characteristics that defined his approach to processing tobacco at Aganorsa.
Which vitola offers the most authentic experience?
The Corona at 6 x 44 was Arsenio’s personal favorite, offering the wrapper-to-filler ratio he preferred for daily smoking. While the Robusto and Toro provide excellent experiences, the Corona delivers the exact format the master blender chose, with only 1,500 boxes produced making it the rarest option.
What distinguishes the double binder construction?
Using two Criollo ’98 leaves from Estelà creates exceptional structural integrity while adding complexity layers rarely found in single-binder cigars. This technique, part of Ramos’ blending philosophy, ensures consistent burn while contributing distinct flavor notes from each binder leaf throughout the smoking progression.
How limited is the 2024 production?
Extremely limited with only 2,000 boxes each of Toro and Robusto formats, and just 1,500 boxes of the Corona. This represents approximately 75,000 total cigars worldwide, making the Arsenio one of Aganorsa’s most exclusive releases and a genuine collector’s item given its significance.
What flavors define the Arsenio experience?
Initial wood, caramel, baking spices, and leather notes establish the foundation, enhanced by Aganorsa’s signature red pepper and fruity sweetness. Rich coffee, walnuts, and cream emerge mid-smoke, culminating in espresso, mushroom, and charred wood finish that exemplifies traditional Cuban-style complexity Ramos championed.
Is this suitable for those unfamiliar with Aganorsa tobaccos?
The Arsenio provides an excellent introduction to Aganorsa’s signature profile while offering complexity that satisfies experienced smokers. The medium to full strength builds gradually, and the smooth, balanced character makes it approachable despite the bold Corojo wrapper, showcasing why Ramos chose this as his daily smoke.
How does this compare to other Aganorsa releases?
The Arsenio bridges Guardian of the Farm’s bold intensity with Rare Leaf Reserve’s refined elegance, creating a unique middle ground that reflects Ramos’ blending philosophy. It delivers more complexity than standard Aganorsa releases while maintaining the smoothness that defined his approach to fermentation and blend development.

I got the Corona since it was supposedly Arsenio’s favorite vitola. Very good draw and thick smoke output, flavorful and consistent burn. I’m all for a great presentation, so I appreciate the wrapping and band design’s details altogether. Give it a try!

I really liked the flavor, medium bodied, nuts, cedar, a little syrupy, and the distinct agarnorsa pepper profile. The burn was good, wrapper was cracked on the foot when it arrived, and it split a little while smoking, but I imagine that happened in the warehouse of shipping, so I don’t fault the cigar for being dropped at some point. It didn’t impact the experience much anyway.
