in 1848 Jose and Eusebio Alfonso, cousins, opened a small cigar factory in Santiago de Las Vegas, a province of Havana, Cuban, and created a cigar brand named Lord Byron in honor of his renowned English poet. He was arguably the greatest author of romantic poetry of the day and more importantly pertaining to the brand, an avid cigar smoker and enthusiast. Some researchers say “Lord Byron became the first cigar brand to adorn a lithographed cigar band and label with a name on it”. More than eighty years later, in the 1930s, The Great Depression hits, and Lord Byron cigars were gone, but not forever. Now…150 years later the original owners’ great-great-great-grandson Nelson Alfonso recovered again the Byron brand name in 1998. Flavor notes consist of hints of spice, earth, and white pepper.

I really wanted to like this cigar, what with the brand’s and Nelson Alfonso’s history, the cigar burned evenly all the way through (even the ash was tough to get tapped on the ashtray), but flavor wise I found it lacking a lot, I did sense some hints of dark cocoa and raisins but it might as well have not been there
The price was expected so I’m not gonna comment on that but the cigar did leave a lot to be desired.

Unbelievable cigar. Nelson Alfonso is making the greatest cigars in the world right now, and this is a perfect example. Tons of flavor, nothing abrasive. It’s one of those cigars that I look at after every puff.

Had a chance to try one of these and liked it so much I got one for a good friend – this level of complexity does not exist in most other brands – you get what you pay for. Distinct citrus-sweetness, baked goods (fresh bread), and some cinnamon and nutmeg. Zero pepper, zero harshness, huge body. The price is high, but the flavour is even better.

Really impressed with the Londinises. Don’t see these around very often, so thanks to Oxford for sourcing these. Working my way slowly through the Byron and Atabey lines currently, so being able to buy singles is really helpful!

An exquisite cigar with an impeccable, seamless roll. Rich peanut and cocoa powder flavor notes.

Great smoke. The Londinese has tasting notes of graham crackers with hints of honey. Towards the end I was getting vanilla. There is almost no bite to the cigar.
