Casdagli Brothers of the Sabre Vater
The Brothers of the Sabre Vater is the most contemplative blend in Casdagli’s celebrated series, honoring Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz—a strategist unmatched in discipline and heritage. Handcrafted at the Kelner Boutique Factory, the Vater blend assembles a multi-country cast: Ecuadorian wrapper, Dominican binder, and a filler combining Dominican, rare Zimbabwean, and USA tobaccos. Designed for complexity and transition, it rewards slow, analytical smoking—starting with subtle notes before unveiling deep, rich flavors in the latter stages. Whether enjoyed as a Figurado (6¼ x 47) or Petit Robusto (4 x 52), Vater finds balance between strength, smoothness, and evolving sweetness, making it a top choice for refined palates and history aficionados alike.
- Available in classic Figurado and compact Petit Robusto formats—both tailored by Hendrik Kelner Jr. for steady burn and stylish transitions
- Wrapper: Premium Ecuadorian—brings creamy sophistication and structure
- Binder: Dominican—supports burn, mouthfeel, and smooth profile
- Filler: Dominican, Zimbabwean, and USA virginias for rare spice, depth, and a unique global signature
- Medium to full-bodied—strength meets rounded elegance, approachable for experienced and newer smokers
- Tasting: Opens subtly, then builds into chocolate, espresso, oak, baking spices, earth, and gentle evolving sweetness
- Presented in cedar piano-top boxes of 20, cellophaned with Boveda 69% RH for optimal humidity
- Part of the Brothers of the Sabre Series, celebrating the legacy of military leaders in tobacco culture
Vater’s experience is methodical—first draws deliver gentler flavors and creamy undertones; the midpoint uncovers wood, spice, and chocolate before finishing with sweetness and lingering richness. The Ecuadorian wrapper’s balanced character frames the bolder elements, while the rare Zimbabwean leaf supplies exotic spice and subtle intrigue not found in other blends. Fans describe the construction as flawless, with smoke production and burn rivalling Casdagli’s other top-tier releases.

Cigar band is killer and cigar appears very delicate. Zimbabwean tobacco, paired with fillers from the USA and the Dominican Republic gives it a unique smoke. This is a cigar that tells a story with each unique puff.

This is one of the best cigars I’ve had in a very long time. The flavors are great. Not necessarily standard for an Ecuadorian blend, but when you smoke it you know it’s Ecuadorian really fast. Strength is a nice medium

This cigar is a real winner! It’s one I go back to again and again. Construction is good, the vitola is perfect and most importantly the flavor is great. Thick smoke with a subtle sweetness and some wood like notes. A must try if you haven’t.

Really impressed with the Vater — smooth, balanced, and flavorful without being overpowering. Loved how the spices and creamy finish developed over time. Definitely one I’d reach for again when I want an easygoing but classy smoke.

I very much enjoyed this one. It starts off very light but develops mixed woody tones and spices as well as definite sweet notes in the second half. The follow is long and has a pleasant earthy character. Definitely plan to add some more to the next order.
