Detailed Description
This cigar embodies the Newman family’s approach to meticulous blending and small-batch craftsmanship. Julius Caeser offers an Ecuadorian Havana-seed wrapper that gleams with natural oils and subtle tooth. The binder from the Dominican Republic and the five-year-aged filler blend create a profile that manages to be both lush and lively. Initial aromas hint at creamy cocoa and black cherry, while the first puffs display well-developed wood, pecan, cocoa, and pepper notes. As the burn progresses, secondary flavors of nougat, coffee, dried fruit, and black cherry emerge, layering with pecan and spice. The finish is long, mouth-coating, and creamy, with construction that holds firm from start to band. Every vitola carries the blend’s signature complexity, making it a genuine pleasure for enthusiasts with refined expectations.
Construction is superb and presentation regal—from band to box. This is a cigar meant for celebration, storytelling, or focused reflection. The aged fillers ensure silky smoke texture, making Julius Caeser a benchmark for premium Dominican blends in modern humidors.

JC Newman never fails to disappoint! I’ve had multiple consistent and quality sticks by JC Newman over the years, and the Julius Caesar doesn’t drop the ball either! Well-constructed and fantastic draw!

I know typically you would split a cigar review up into thirds but for this cigar (in the robusto vitola) it was very distinct halves for me. This is a beautiful cigar, it is very well constructed with a dark, chocolatey wrapper and a fair amount of oily sheen. The first have started off very mild with lots of leather and earthy flavors and a touch of cocoa. Burn started off even but the burn line became wavey to the point it required a touch up. I also smoked it as soon as it arrived and because the construction seemed good I’ll chalk that up to the fluctuations of travel. At about the half way point a salty, almost umami flavor starts to take over and the leather and earthiness fades. The cocoa flavor also ramps up and begins to taste like a very dark and rich chocolate. By the end of the cigar the smoke is very rich and coated the palate heavily and reminds me of the artisan sea salted dark chocolates I used to buy on the coast of Maine. The finish is truly delicious and leaves you wanting more, though the first half may seem a bit underwhelming I highly recommend sticking this one out until you’re burning your fingertips.
