I know typically you would split a cigar review up into thirds but for this cigar (in the robusto vitola) it was very distinct halves for me. This is a beautiful cigar, it is very well constructed with a dark, chocolatey wrapper and a fair amount of oily sheen. The first have started off very mild with lots of leather and earthy flavors and a touch of cocoa. Burn started off even but the burn line became wavey to the point it required a touch up. I also smoked it as soon as it arrived and because the construction seemed good I’ll chalk that up to the fluctuations of travel. At about the half way point a salty, almost umami flavor starts to take over and the leather and earthiness fades. The cocoa flavor also ramps up and begins to taste like a very dark and rich chocolate. By the end of the cigar the smoke is very rich and coated the palate heavily and reminds me of the artisan sea salted dark chocolates I used to buy on the coast of Maine. The finish is truly delicious and leaves you wanting more, though the first half may seem a bit underwhelming I highly recommend sticking this one out until you’re burning your fingertips.
