Detailed Description
The Wise Man Corojo emerged from Nicholas Melillo’s strategic partnership with the Garcia family, marking Foundation’s first production at the legendary My Father Cigars facility in Estelí. This collaboration represents more than a simple factory change; it’s a complete reimagining of the original El Güegüense blend that established Foundation’s reputation among industry insiders. The cigar pays homage to Menelik I, the legendary son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, whose Solomonic dynasty ruled Ethiopia for nearly three millennia. Historical records from the mid-1500s reveal that enslaved Ethiopians in Nicaragua were among the first non-natives to smoke local cigars, creating a profound connection between Ethiopian heritage and Nicaraguan tobacco culture.
The Corojo 99 wrapper leaf showcases exceptional cultivation with its light rosado tint and subtle oil sheen that signals quality without ostentation. Beneath this elegant wrapper, the dual binder system employs tobaccos from both Estelí and Jalapa, creating structural integrity while contributing aromatic complexity. The filler blend represents Nicaragua’s triumvirate of premium growing regions, with Estelí providing backbone and spice, Condega adding natural sweetness and body, while Jalapa contributes floral notes and aromatic refinement. This careful balance creates a smoking experience that evolves from initial notes of toasted bread and cedar through waves of cashew creaminess, honey sweetness, and walnut richness, finishing with delicate baking spices and leather undertones.
Construction quality meets the exacting standards expected from My Father productions, with each cigar displaying perfect draw resistance, razor-sharp burn lines, and solid white ash that holds firm throughout the experience. The smoke production strikes an ideal balance between generous output and refined character, releasing an intoxicating room note that combines sweet cedar, roasted nuts, and subtle molasses. While maintaining medium body throughout, the complexity rivals many fuller-bodied offerings, making this an accessible yet sophisticated choice for both developing palates and experienced aficionados seeking daytime enjoyment without sacrificing depth.

What makes The Wise Man Corojo unique?
The Wise Man Corojo stands apart through its authentic Corojo 99 wrapper combined with the Garcia family’s legendary construction expertise at My Father Cigars. This collaboration creates a uniquely refined medium-bodied experience that balances accessibility with complexity, offering flavors of toasted bread, cashews, honey, and subtle spices while honoring the historical connection between Ethiopian heritage and Nicaraguan tobacco dating back 450 years.
How does The Wise Man Corojo compare to the Maduro version?
While the Maduro delivers bold intensity with dark chocolate and espresso notes, the Corojo offers a more refined, medium-bodied experience emphasizing natural sweetness and nuttiness. The Corojo showcases bright cedar, cashew creaminess, and honey notes with subtle baking spices, making it ideal for daytime smoking, whereas the Maduro’s full strength and robust profile suits evening enjoyment or after substantial meals.
Which Wise Man Corojo size offers the best experience?
The Robusto (5.5×50) provides optimal balance between flavor concentration and smoking time at 60-70 minutes. The Corona (5×48) intensifies the blend’s spice notes in a compact 50-minute format. The Toro (6×52) allows maximum flavor development over 75-90 minutes, while the Double Corona (7×54) extends complexity across 90-120 minutes. The limited Lancero (7×40) amplifies the blend’s nuances for experienced palates seeking concentrated elegance.
What beverages pair best with The Wise Man Corojo?
This cigar pairs beautifully with aged rum that echoes its natural sweetness and caramel notes. Light-bodied bourbon enhances the cashew and honey characteristics without overwhelming the medium profile. For wine, choose Tempranillo or lighter Malbecs that complement without dominating. Coffee pairings work exceptionally well, particularly medium roasts that mirror the toasted bread notes, while green tea provides refreshing contrast.
How should I store The Wise Man Corojo cigars?
Maintain 65-68% humidity and 65-70°F temperature for optimal preservation. The Corojo wrapper benefits from stable conditions to preserve its delicate oils and prevent cracking. Allow newly purchased boxes to rest minimum two weeks before smoking, enabling moisture equilibrium across the dual binder system. The medium-bodied profile makes these cigars excellent candidates for extended aging, developing additional sweetness and complexity over time.
Is The Wise Man Corojo suitable for beginners?
The medium strength and balanced profile make The Wise Man Corojo an excellent choice for developing palates ready to explore premium Nicaraguan tobacco. Its approachable character provides complexity without overwhelming intensity, offering clear flavor transitions that help newcomers identify tasting notes. The consistent construction ensures reliable performance, eliminating frustration while building appreciation for quality craftsmanship.
When is the ideal time to smoke The Wise Man Corojo?
This versatile cigar excels throughout the day, from morning coffee pairings through afternoon breaks to pre-dinner enjoyment. The medium body won’t overwhelm the palate early in the day, while the complexity rewards focused attention during contemplative moments. Perfect for business meetings, golf rounds, or casual gatherings where conversation flows alongside sophisticated smoke without demanding complete concentration.
How does the new Wise Man differ from El Güegüense?
The current Wise Man Corojo represents complete evolution from El Güegüense, produced at My Father Cigars instead of Aganorsa Leaf with entirely different tobacco sources. While maintaining the Corojo wrapper concept, the new version features dual binder construction and triple-region filler blend creating smoother, more refined character. The collaboration with the Garcia family brings enhanced construction consistency and broader accessibility while preserving the sophistication that made El Güegüense legendary among industry insiders.

Bought as part of a Cigars Foundation sampler, this one was not my prefer, but definitely I tasted the quality on it. Will give it a chance again in the future.

This cigar is super consistent, nothing surprising about it and nothing bad to say about it either. Nice solid peppery corojo flavor, medium strength and body. Great construction, the draw was spot o and it burned and drew well. It’s a solid offering from Nick, if not the most exciting thing he does. No problem smoking these any time of day.

I keep trying this blend because I like everything foundation does and I love corojo. With this now being done at the MF plant I wanted to see if it was better. I felt the stick was a little better than I remembered. Classic corojo flavors of spiced earth, molasses and cedar. Some nuttiness. The flavors did not blow me away though. Construction was great on these. Just wanted a little more oomph behind the flavors for me.
