The Sumatra wrapper glistens with oil and shows minimal veins, offering a luxurious visual and tactile impression. Aromas from the wrapper and foot include sweet hay, dried fruit, earth, cocoa nib, and a subtle spice note reminiscent of cinnamon bark. Cold draw offers a right-on resistance with flavors of honey, sweet cedar, raisin, and an earthy undertone.
Lighting the cigar unveils initial flavors of honey, black pepper, and earth, underpinned by rich cocoa and roasted nuts. The first third is creamy yet spicy, with an underlying sweetness that lingers after each draw. By the second third, a honeyed profile emerges with layers of fresh cedar, cinnamon, and espresso. The retrohale becomes smoother, highlighting notes of white pepper and caramel, while burn and smoke production remain even and ample. The final third crescendos with intensified spice, bittersweet chocolate, and Black Forest coffee, achieving medium-full strength and complexity. Ash formation is solid through each section, and the draw remains effortless from start to finish.

FAQ
What makes the Gilberto Oliva Reserva unique?
The Gilberto Oliva Reserva stands out due to its combination of dark Indonesian Sumatra wrapper, aged Nicaraguan fillers, and meticulous Oliva blending and construction. The cigar develops dramatically from sweet and creamy to spicy and bittersweet, rewarding smokers with pronounced transitions in every third.
Who will enjoy this cigar?
This blend is a strong match for fans of Nicaraguan tobacco, box-pressed formats, and those who appreciate noticeable flavor transitions with consistent draw and burn. Both seasoned and intermediate cigar enthusiasts will find appeal in the balance of sweetness, spice, and coffee-laden earth.
What flavor notes should I expect?
Expect sweet honey, cedar, cocoa, cinnamon, earth, raisin, espresso, roasted nuts, white pepper, and a creamy texture early on, followed by increased spice, bittersweet chocolate, and coffee in the final third.
What drinks pair best with this cigar?
Pair with dark roasted coffee, spiced rum, bourbon, or creamy hot chocolate to complement the cigar’s naturally sweet, earthy, and spicy flavors. Cold brew or even chai tea work well for non-alcoholic pairings.
How is the construction and burn?
Expect excellent construction with a solid box press, seamless cap, and oily wrapper. The burn line remains even, the ash holds for over an inch, and the draw stays perfect throughout the smoke.
How does this compare to other Oliva cigars?
This Reserva offers more sweet-spice transitions and complexity than the core Serie G, and is less powerhouse than the Serie V, making it a good middle ground for varied palates.
How long does it smoke?
Depending on the vitola, you can expect smoking times between 60 to 120 minutes, with the Churchill and Torpedo lasting notably longer.
What’s the best occasion for this cigar?
The bold flavor progression and medium-full body make the Gilberto Oliva Reserva a rewarding choice for focused evening sessions, post-dinner relaxation, or to anchor a celebratory gathering.

Writing my review while finish it, a bit dry the one I got, however, very well made, perfect for a daytime cigar with a Brown Ale. Good aroma and taste, good purchase indeed.

A pleasant and inoffensive cigar. Well made and burned well but somewhat lacking in complexity and flavor development. The profile for me was mostly cardboard with a light earthiness on the follow and hints of hay. A pleasant and inexpensive way to occasionally kick off your day with.

This is a solid cigar! I wasn’t expecting much, if anything. But it certainly wowed me even if I don’t consider the low price! The first half of the cigar is very straight forward medium bodied, with a slight hay sweetness on the retrohale. It does start to go bitter on the final half but then again, very few cigar doesn’t. At this price, it is a solid 4 star stick!

I like most stuff from Oliva. Generally everything has been real solid so. I tried this. I was generally underwhelmed by this stick. The draw and burn on it was decent. I got some subtle baking spice, earth and a touch of graham cracker from this. The flavors though were pretty flat and didn’t provide much for transitions. I think I will stay with Olivas more core line. These were a great price and I wanted to like them but just fell flat for me.

The construction was really nice on this. Solid white ash and a good draw. However this cigar tastes like straight cardboard. I mean I’ve had less enjoyable cigars, but this is pretty bland and uneventful. Not terrible for the price, but I don’t think I’d take the time to smoke another.
