Liga Undercrown Sun Grown cigars are the third edition in this highly-acclaimed line extension from Drew Estate Cigars. Created in another collaborative effort between Willy Herrera and the Undercrown factory blending team – the same team that created the Liga Undercrown Shade – the recipe starts with a mouthwatering Ecuadorian sun-grown Sumatra seed wrapper. For the binder, they used a Connecticut River Valley stalk-cut & cured, sun-grown Habano leaf that complements a muscular blend of prime Nicaraguan long-fillers. To augment the strength of the blend, an extra-long-aged Ligero leaf from the Nueva Segovia region along the Honduras border was also added to the mix. Once lit, the chewy smoke issues a well-balanced, full-bodied profile that’s rich and spicy with a note of natural sweetness.

I’ve had a handful over the years, and these grave always been a bit of a dud for me. I seem to have back luck in the construction department at Drew Estate, and this was no exception. Lots of soft spots in this cigar, causing it to canoe pretty frequently. The flavors of these never blew me away either, there a stale cereal/cardboard quality to the smoke that just doesn’t seem to go away. I have to give it to Oxford though, that price got me to try another one!

Really enjoyed this sun grown. I’ve liked the other two wrappers in this line. Thought to try this and loved the blend. Willy Herrera really knows how to make great sticks. This gives me those earthy flavors with baking spice and molasses. The tight milk chocolate wrapper on this is very nice with that band really pops. The flavors on this are very solid and delivers a very enjoyable smoking experience. Construction was great… had to touch up once but that was it. Great price on this and super glad I gave this a try.
