Patina Sumatra Rustic
Patina Sumatra Rustic delivers a beautifully balanced and genuinely complex smoking experience, expertly crafted at NACSA in Nicaragua. Featuring an Ecuadorian Sumatra Oscuro wrapper, a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and a carefully selected blend of Nicaraguan and U.S. fillers, this robusto (5 x 52) displays a rustic, leathery appearance that hints at its bold character.
Upon lighting, you’re greeted with rich notes of leather, cedar, dark chocolate, and baking spices. The initial draws bring forward a pleasant mix of earth, black coffee, and a subtle fruit or raisin sweetness that lingers on the palate. Transitions reveal cinnamon, nutmeg, oak, nuts, and hints of espresso, balanced by just enough spice and black pepper—especially noticeable on the retrohale. As the cigar progresses, additional layers of earth, cream, and an underlying sweetness keep things lively, with flavors shifting from leathery and woodsy to more espresso-dominant in the final third.
This medium to full-bodied cigar has a captivating floral nuance and a notably clean finish. The construction offers a steady burn and ample smoke production, accentuating complexity while maintaining approachability. Patina Sumatra Rustic is an excellent choice for enthusiasts craving dynamic flavor transitions in a profile that stands out among boutique Sumatra cigars.

Patina Maduro was the first box purchase I had ever made. One of my favorite cigar reviewers gave it a 100 score. Since then, I’ve always kept my eye out for Patina Cigars. I believe they are on the most underrated cigar companies out there. Do yourself a favor and buy a fiver or each. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I’m very picky with my Sumatra cigars, as they can be very bitter. With Patina, I knew I was safe in buying a box without having smoked one before. I was not disappointed and the Patina Sumatra is a treat to smoke

So far I’ve enjoyed everything patina has to offer as a brand, and being a Sumatra lover this cigar was right up my alley. The first third was leathery with a sweet spice retro, then progressed into an earth bakers spice, with a touch of pepper on the retro. The final third my burn got very wonky but continued with the bakers spice and the leather came back while the earthy taste went away. Overall very good. I smoked ROTT so that might attribute to the wonky burn towards the end

Patina Sumatra Rustic is a beautiful medium brown cigar. You can’t always judge a cigar by its wrapper, but this one starts off splendidly. Lots of leather and cedar right off the bat. But progresses to include cinnamon, spice and earth notes. It burned a little fast at first but calmed down after a minute or two. I’ve enjoyed other Patina cigars, but the medium + Sumatra is the best one I’ve smoked so far. I’d definitely smoke again.

The Connecticut is still my favorite, but this is also very good.
