Detailed Description
La Colmena No. 44 represents the pinnacle of Miami’s boutique cigar renaissance, where Sandy Cobas’s El Titan de Bronze factory preserves Cuban rolling traditions through meticulous small-batch production. The Ecuadorian Deflorada wrapper undergoes specialized cultivation where top priming leaves are removed, concentrating nutrients in the remaining foliage to produce exceptional sweetness and complexity. This honey-toned leaf encases carefully aged Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers, creating layers of cream, vanilla, cedar, and graham cracker sweetness.
The covered foot design delivers immediate wrapper flavor impact, with the initial draws providing concentrated honey and floral notes before the filler tobaccos emerge. Construction remains impeccable throughout, reflecting the expertise of rollers who previously earned Cuba’s highest torcedor classification. The triple cap application ensures clean cuts while the entubado bunch creates perfect draw resistance that channels smoke directly across the palate. Each puff reveals nuanced transitions between sweet cream, toasted nuts, white pepper, and subtle cinnamon spice.
Kyle Gellis specifically selected this corona format to maximize wrapper influence on the overall profile. The 44 ring gauge concentrates flavors while maintaining a cool smoking temperature that preserves delicate floral and honey notes throughout the experience. Many collectors report that six months to one year of aging intensifies the honey character while smoothing the pepper elements, creating an even more refined smoking experience. The slow burn rate typical of this construction method extends enjoyment to approximately 75 minutes.
Production limitations stem from both tobacco availability and the time-intensive rolling process. Each cigar requires precise wrapper stretching to achieve the covered foot while maintaining proper bunch density. The pigtail cap application demands additional skill, serving both aesthetic and functional purposes by preventing wrapper unraveling. These technical requirements limit daily output despite strong demand from collectors who appreciate authentic Cuban-style construction rarely found outside heritage factories.

What distinguishes La Colmena No. 44 from other Warped offerings?
This cigar stands alone as Warped’s only Miami-made production, crafted exclusively by Cuban category 9 master rollers at El Titan de Bronze. The combination of traditional entubado bunching, covered foot construction, and Ecuadorian Deflorada wrapper creates a uniquely honey-forward profile not found in other Warped lines.
How does the covered foot affect the smoking experience?
The wrapper extending over the foot provides an immediate burst of concentrated wrapper flavors upon lighting. This construction technique delivers pure honey and floral notes in the opening draws before the filler tobaccos gradually emerge, creating a distinctive flavor progression.
Why are production numbers so limited?
Daily output remains restricted to 100 cigars due to the specialized rolling requirements and limited number of qualified torcedores. The entubado bunching method, covered foot application, and pigtail cap construction each require exceptional skill and additional time compared to standard production methods.
Does aging improve La Colmena No. 44?
Many enthusiasts report significant improvement after six months to one year of proper storage. Extended aging intensifies the signature honey sweetness while mellowing pepper notes, creating an even smoother and more integrated flavor profile.
What makes the Ecuadorian Deflorada wrapper special?
The deflorada cultivation process removes top priming leaves during growth, concentrating nutrients and oils in the remaining foliage. This technique produces exceptional sweetness, refined texture, and the distinctive honey-gold coloration that defines La Colmena’s appearance.
How does the corona format influence the blend?
The 44 ring gauge maximizes wrapper-to-filler ratio, emphasizing the Deflorada leaf’s honey and cream characteristics. This format also maintains cooler combustion temperatures that preserve delicate floral notes throughout the smoking experience.
What experience level suits this cigar best?
The medium strength and refined complexity appeal to both developing palates and experienced enthusiasts. Novices appreciate the approachable sweetness and balanced profile, while veterans value the nuanced transitions and traditional Cuban construction elements.
How should I properly cut a pigtail cap?
Simply clip or twist off the pigtail itself rather than using a traditional cutter. This preserves the triple cap structure underneath while maintaining the clean aesthetic and preventing wrapper damage.

Great blend, perfect construction. Awesome medium cigar. Bright and creamy with a just a tad of zip, especially at light up with the closed foot. Fantastic cigar.

I buy these delicious cigars whenever I see them, to the point that I’m nervous about giving them such a good review – they’re released in a highly limited quantity, and I want them for myself. Exquisitely constructed in Miami at El Titan de Bronze by expert rollers (actually, I think we’re down to just one), with a consistency of flavor and perfect draw that I’ve never found elsewhere. These are light to medium, bright and buzzy, with a nice little extra wrapper-flavor punch as you draw through the sealed foot to get it started. My only complaint is that they’re expensive – I’ve gotten past that: I think in 20 boxes of these I’ve had one stick whose quality I didn’t think was up to par – compare that to the last box of Cubans you got, and the La Colmena price seems to get more reasonable. These sticks are wonderful, so please, do me a favor and leave some for me.

The La Colmena No. 44 is the real deal! Normally I prefer a 50 ring gauge cigar but this No. 44 is it! Notes of cedar, white pepper, leather, hay, and salty peanuts. A cubanesge like cigar in my opinion…Once the Cream and Vanilla like sweetness moves in this cigar is fantastic! Buy a box!

Toasted pepper in the nose, sweet and spicy in the mouth, the feeling from inhalation to exhalation is pepper, hazelnut powder, and nectar aftertaste.
Take a small sip, the smoke is very smooth, and the aroma feels a little coffee. Take another sip, and you can feel a slight change, the hazelnut powder turns into coffee, and the aftertaste is sweeter, sweeter than my Geisha!
In the middle of the first section, the wood tells you, it’s coming! There is a little bit of oblique burning. Wood is the main theme from here, woody, powdery, hazelnut sweet, and honey floral aftertaste

Love the vitola. Construction was great and the flavor profile was very enjoyable. Honey, some toast, nutty, sweet and creamy. These are box worthy all day.

Exceptional cigar. I love warped cigars and generally anything that comes out of El Titan DeBronze is a great stick. So I had to try this and I was not disappointed. These are creamy, honey, bread and cashew. I love the smaller ring gauge cigars. The construction is great. Love the pigtail cap and closed foot on these. Very nice touches. I would definitely buy these again!

Let this beauty rest and get a little age under its belt and you shall be rewarded! I had this cigar rest for 6 months and it gets better with age. If you think it is a superb smooth stick young, give it some age and gets much smoother. I would recommend buying a box and sit on it for a year. The wait will be worth it. It smokes beautifully young but does not impart the same profound honey that envelops the palette given a little age. The biggest thing I like about this cigar is the honey notes. Kyle did right to call it La Coleman (Spanish: Beehive). It lives up to its name. This fantastic cigar is deliciously smooth and sweet, mild strength and a wonderful aroma. This is my favorite Warped blend.
