One of my favorite Surrogates. The only odd part is the name; you’d think a cigar called Closing Time would be meant to be smoked at the end of the night, but this isn’t a powerhouse stick, it’s closer to Medium in strength.

Very smooth medium cigar, with notes of earth, cedar, leather and a touch of spice. The finish is very sweet. Overall the cigar is very complex as you smoke through it. It definitely feels more like a late night cap cigar. The construction was overall good with a few touch up with a very good slightly restricted draw.

As much as I love Pete Johnsons blends, the Surrogates stuff is usually pretty hit or miss for me, and this one falls somewhere in between. It’s a good cigar in terms of flavor, though stronger than I usually prefer. Definitely full strength and flavor here, lots of pepper, leather, and wood, consistent with the brand, but there is more sweetness to this one too with a nice cocoa finish that helps make it more accommodating. The build was pretty good, a little touch up halfway through and a slightly open draw being the only drawbacks. Not something I will stock, but glad to have tried one.
