Warped Futuro
The Warped Futuro represents a landmark collaboration between two rising stars of the premium cigar industry, Kyle Gellis of Warped Cigars and Max Fernandez of Casa Fernandez, who joined creative forces in 2015 to craft a blend showcasing the absolute finest tobaccos from Aganorsa’s legendary vault. This Nicaraguan puro features tobacco so prized that the Fernandez family keeps it under lock and key, resulting in a smoking experience that perfectly balances both blenders’ distinct philosophies while pushing the boundaries of what Nicaraguan Corojo can achieve.

The Futuro project emerged from the organic partnership between Warped and Casa Fernandez, with both young visionaries developing the blend together before each selecting their preferred vitola to showcase the tobacco’s potential. Gellis chose the 5⅝ x 46 Seleccion Suprema corona gorda, maintaining his preference for sub-50 ring gauge formats that concentrate flavor. Fernandez selected the 6 x 52 Seleccion 109, featuring his signature flat “bullet” cap that has become synonymous with premium Casa Fernandez releases. Both formats deliver slightly different smoking experiences while maintaining the core profile’s exceptional complexity.
The flavor journey begins with an explosion of creamy chocolate, mixed fruit sweetness, and a sophisticated spice combination of black pepper, cedar, and cinnamon. The medium-brown Corojo ’99 wrapper with its distinct rosado tint contributes smooth, toasted bread notes and roasted cashew richness that defines premium Nicaraguan tobacco. As combustion progresses, leather undertones emerge alongside intensified coffee bean bitterness, creating layers of complexity that shift and evolve with each third. The retro-hale delivers pronounced black pepper and cedar that enhances rather than overwhelms the primary flavors.
Construction excellence reflects the meticulous standards at TABSA, where traditional Cuban techniques meet modern quality control. The wrapper displays a light coating of oil with minimal visible veins, while the burn maintains a sharp, even line requiring minimal corrections. Draw resistance strikes the perfect balance, delivering generous smoke production that carries the complex flavors effectively. The firm gray ash and consistent burn temperature throughout the 60-75 minute smoking experience demonstrate the superior construction that has become synonymous with both Warped and Casa Fernandez productions.

What makes the Futuro collaboration unique in the cigar industry?
This partnership united two second-generation industry leaders, Kyle Gellis and Max Fernandez, who jointly developed the blend using Aganorsa’s most prized vault tobaccos. Each blender then selected their preferred vitola, creating two distinct expressions of the same exceptional tobacco that showcase their individual philosophies while maintaining collaborative harmony.
How do the two vitolas differ in smoking experience?
The Seleccion Suprema corona gorda offers concentrated flavors with slightly more intensity due to its smaller ring gauge, emphasizing the wrapper’s contribution. The Seleccion 109 with its bullet cap provides a softer palate experience with enhanced creaminess, allowing the filler tobaccos to express themselves more fully while maintaining the blend’s core complexity.
What distinguishes vault tobacco from regular Aganorsa leaf?
The Fernandez family maintains a special section at TABSA called “the vault” containing their most exceptional tobacco kept under lock and key. These leaves undergo extended aging and represent the finest selection from each harvest, reserved for special projects where only the absolute best quality will suffice.
What flavors dominate the Futuro profile?
Initial notes of creamy chocolate and mixed fruit sweetness give way to complex spice combinations including black pepper, cedar, and cinnamon. Toasted bread, roasted cashews, leather, and coffee bean notes emerge throughout, with the final third intensifying into concentrated pepper and cedar while maintaining underlying sweetness.
Is this suitable for newer cigar enthusiasts?
The Futuro’s medium-full to full strength and complex flavor profile best suits experienced smokers who can appreciate its nuanced transitions. The full body and increasing strength throughout the smoking experience may overwhelm developing palates, making this better reserved for those comfortable with bolder Nicaraguan puros.
Why is production limited to 400 boxes per size?
Limited production ensures quality control while maintaining the exclusivity of vault tobacco usage. The scarcity of these exceptional aged tobaccos naturally restricts quantities, making each release special while allowing both Warped and Casa Fernandez to maintain their exacting standards.
How does the retro-styled band design reflect the cigar?
The classic blue and gold band featuring both blenders’ initials (KG and MF) represents the fusion of tradition and innovation. While named “Futuro” (future), the vintage aesthetic honors cigar-making heritage, perfectly embodying how this blend respects history while pushing contemporary boundaries.
What makes this an excellent aging candidate?
The combination of vault-aged Corojo and Criollo tobaccos provides exceptional aging potential. The full-bodied profile’s complexity will continue developing over time, with the spice mellowing while chocolate and fruit notes deepen, making this worthy of long-term cellaring for special occasions.

I had the 109 sample. A 6×52 Toro. This isn’t typical with my experience from warped as a lot of there offerings come in a much smaller format…. There’s one thing that warped does flawlessly and that’s ANYTHING with Corojo tobacco. Luckily this offering nails that. Sweetness throughout with cream and almonds. A fantastic every day smoke.

Another great smoke from Warped! The Futuro was originally released in 2015 a collaboration between Kyle Gellis of Warped and Max Fernandez (grandson of the Casa Fernandez / Aganorsa Leaf family) in two formats. Kyle’s Seleccion Suprema corona (gorda) and Max’s 109 bullet capped beli. Both offer slightly different smoking experiences, the 109 is a bit softer on the palate but still awesome. Toasted bread and roasted cashews with some nice baking spice notes. A medium-bodied smoke that you’ll want to add to your collection. The graphic design of the band and packaging is also a nice touch.

Very good cigar, I love that cap. Nice oily wrapper, great flavors. Had to do a few relights, otherwise this one would be a 5 star for me.
