Warped Venture 1492 Gran Corona
Kyle Gellis collaborates with Hostos Quesada at Tabacalera La iSLA to produce the Venture 1492, a Mexican San Andrés expression that showcases bold intensity in the classic gran corona format. This inaugural vitola marks Warped’s exploration into full-bodied territory, combining Dominican Cotuí binder with carefully selected Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers to create a profile that commands attention from first light.
- Mexican San Andrés wrapper delivers rich chocolate and licorice complexity
- Dominican Cotuí binder adds unique regional character rarely found in modern blends
- 5.5 x 48 gran corona format provides ideal balance between smoking time and flavor concentration
- Tabacalera La iSLA production ensures meticulous construction and quality control
- First vitola release with additional sizes planned for future expansion
- Medium-full strength satisfies experienced palates seeking robust profiles
The Venture 1492 represents Kyle Gellis’s continued partnership with the Quesada family, leveraging their Santiago facility’s expertise to craft a blend that diverges from Warped’s typically medium-bodied offerings. The Mexican San Andrés wrapper, sourced from the volcanic soils of Veracruz, presents a dark, toothy appearance with substantial oil content that signals the intensity within. This thick, rough-textured leaf contributes pronounced dark chocolate and black licorice notes that establish themselves immediately upon lighting, creating a foundation that remains consistent throughout the smoking experience.
Dominican Cotuí tobacco in the binder position adds regional specificity that distinguishes this blend from typical San Andrés expressions. The Cotuí region produces tobacco with distinctive earthy characteristics and natural sweetness that complements the wrapper’s intensity while providing structural integrity. Combined with the dual-origin filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican leaves, the result delivers layers of leather, burnt marshmallow, and coffee undertones that emerge progressively through each third. Red pepper flake appears on the retrohale, providing measured spice that enhances rather than overwhelms the core flavor profile.
Construction quality exemplifies Tabacalera La iSLA’s reputation for precision rolling. Each gran corona displays consistent pack density that ensures even combustion and steady smoke production. The draw resistance sits perfectly calibrated for the ring gauge, allowing full expression of the blend’s complex character without requiring excessive effort. White ash holds firmly for extended segments, indicating proper fermentation and quality leaf selection throughout the blend components. While the burn line may develop slight waves, it consistently self-corrects without intervention.

How does this compare to other Warped releases?
The Venture 1492 represents Warped’s boldest profile to date, delivering medium-full intensity that contrasts with their typically medium-bodied portfolio while maintaining the brand’s signature construction quality.
What flavors dominate the smoking experience?
Dark chocolate and black licorice lead from the start, with leather, coffee, and burnt marshmallow emerging as secondary notes. Red pepper flake appears on the retrohale throughout.
Does this cigar benefit from aging?
While excellent fresh, several months of rest allows the bold San Andrés wrapper to marry more completely with the filler tobaccos, smoothing the profile while maintaining its robust character.
How long does the gran corona format smoke?
Expect 60 to 75 minutes of smoking time, making it ideal for extended relaxation sessions where you can fully appreciate the blend’s complexity.
What distinguishes Tabacalera La iSLA’s production?
The Santiago factory combines traditional Dominican craftsmanship with modern quality control under Hostos Quesada’s supervision, ensuring consistent construction across every Venture 1492.
Are additional vitolas planned for this blend?
Yes, Warped plans to expand the Venture 1492 line with additional sizes, though the gran corona remains the signature format that best expresses the blend’s intended profile.
What pairs well with this full-bodied profile?
The rich chocolate and coffee notes pair excellently with bourbon, aged rum, or espresso. The intensity also complements porter or stout beers for those preferring malt beverages.

This is an extremely good smoke. Rich and dark full bodied flavors. Not strong or harsh at any point. One of the better Warped Cigars I have smoked recently.

If you are a sports fan, you’ll hear me on this. I kinda feel like Illusione cigars are the Yankees and Warped would be the Red Sox. I have no idea if those two brands are hated rivals or rivals at all, but it just feels like it to me.
Of the two, I am more intrigued by the Illusione brand. However, Warped keeps creeping up on me and I finally found something I really like.
My favorite vitola is a Corona and this is right up my alley. It’s strong, almost full-bodied, and has that deep, smooth flavor that I absolutely love.
This cigar is about an 7.5 on the 1-10 scale of weak to strong sticks. That is where I have started to live. In that deeper, fuller, strong area and this is a smooth and really nice cigar.
Tip: Buy a five pack, instead of just a single cigar you want to try. Each cigar has different, subtle characteristics to it. If I am dying to try a cigar, I pick up 5 or so and see how I like them over the course of the smoking process.

Hi, I am a Warped fan, I have all the limited-release cigars in my humidor. Warped doesn’t have a lot of maduros but some of them are amazing cigars (Black honey, Oso, Companion) this one is by far the best maduro from the brand. You will get sweet coffee notes and, es expected by Warped, perfect construction.

Working my way through a lot of warped right now. This was a total banger for me. Big flavors came from this corona. The main flavor I get is dark amber honey. There is some cedar and Graham cracker. For me the honey is very forward and delicious. This reminds me very much of a honey flavored stinger bar. Really buttery and that classic honey sweetness that lingers. Really great job on this stick. Packed with flavor from start to finish. Construction was immaculate. No complaints here. Incredible price for this.

Absolutely delicious cigar! I caught myself puffing a bit too often on this one and had to set it down. Flavors will keep you coming back for more. A hint of pepper, cacao, earth and leather. Box worthy stick all day.

This is easily one of the better cigars I’ve had with a MSA wrapper. Bold and smooth profile, exactly what I look for. Lots of flavor complexity – dark chocolate, spice, leather – with a hint of floral and brown sugar. Definitely recommend this one, especially for those who enjoy a fuller-bodied smoke.

I’m a big Warped fan, and the recent releases have been fantastic. This is likely the best Warped cigar to hit the market in the last year. This is a smoke that starts off strong, and stays full throughout the entire experience. The blend features a beautiful dark, oily, Mexican San Andres wrapper over a Dominican binder from the Cotui region and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. As with many of Warped Cigars offerings, The Venture 1492 Gran Corona comes in one size – a wonderful medium sized smoke at 5 1/2 x 48. Another winner joining the Chinchalle and Companion de Warped lines as blends coming out of Tabacalera La Isla, the facility owned by Hostos Quesada. Flavor profile includes dark chocolate, burnt marshmallow, deep leather tones, and a bit of red pepper flake.

What a fantastic smoke. I got anise seed, earthy leather notes on the finish. There was intense white ash on this one. I absolutely love the La Colmena No 44 from Warped. Generally speaking, I have not much luck with Warped minus the 1988 but recently with this one and the Warped Cabinet Selección Lirio Rojo 2022, I have been really enjoying these cigars. This one is box worthy.

If you enjoy a bold and in your face Mexican San Andres cigar then this is a fantastic specimen. Right out of the gate this cigar packs a serious flavor punch. The flavor is very rich with a lot of depth, lots of black licorice in the forefront. Though there isn’t much for flavor transition a dark coffee undertone builds steam as the cigar progresses. The wrapper is very thick and rough (read: toothy) and the construction is phenomenal. The burn got ever so slightly wavey but always corrected and the draw was impeccable from start to finish. They are fantastic right now but I think a few more months in the humidor will do wonders to this blend, similar to the Companion. Overall, another fantastic cigar from Warped!
