Cohiba Celebrates Six Decades: 2026 “Cohiba Year”

Habanos, S.A. celebrates the 60th anniversary of the most prestigious brand in its portfolio in 2026.

The brand was named by Celia Sánchez, a key figure in Cuba’s revolutionary history. She chose “Cohiba,” the Taíno word used to describe the tobacco leaves observed by Christopher Columbus in 1492, anchoring the brand firmly in the roots of Cuban tobacco culture.

Cohiba currently has four main lines, each representing a facet of the brand’s character:

  • Classic Line: The foundation of the Cohiba style
  • 1492 Line: Launched in 1992 to commemorate the discovery of Cuba
  • Maduro 5 Line: Introduced in 2007
  • Behike Line: Since 2010

Beatriz Garrido and Álex Fernández-Blanco Barrero, managers of Habanos, S.A.’s Operational Marketing Department, stated: “The secret of Cohiba’s success over these six decades has been the perfect combination of tradition and innovation, with a common denominator: the pursuit of excellence.”
