This is maduro from before the time that maduros really took off – it’s smooth, relatively low-strength, and dominated more by roasted coffee bean and cocoa flavours with a semi-sweet finish as opposed to the dominant, pepper-forward, intense experience of most contemporary maduros. For someone who loves where (most) maduro cigars have gone insofar as flavour profile and strength, they likely will find this a novelty or an archaic type of cigar, but I earnestly believe for the (as an example) Davidoff or Cuban cigar fan, this is a great entry into enjoying a maduro that is accessible but also interesting enough that veterans who appreciate nuance would still consider their money well-spent. Construction is flawless, presentation is top-notch – Ashton is a truly premium brand.
