La Flor Dominicana Chapter I is the first cigar blended by Litto Gomez’s son, Antonio Gomez. The blend uses a Brazilian wrapper chosen for its very dark, rich flavor, a Connecticut binder that adds strength and chocolate notes, and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. Chapter One is a box-pressed “Chisel” shape with a very attractive, dark wrapper. The flavors are peppery, earthy, and rich.

It is unexpectedly smooth after lighting, with a very thick, rich, and strong bean aroma. The main line is nutty and bean aroma, with a slight woody aroma, a slightly smooth feeling of chocolate, average strength, medium to high intensity, average combustion, and ok structure. The roll is very tight, the inhalation resistance is just right, and it feels very powerful when held in the hand. The chisel narrowing at the end of the tail makes good use of the smoke concentration property, and a lot of impurities are covered under the blessing of the powerful main line.

I go back and for with this and the Capitulo II, they’re both excellent. This one is a little more aggressive in term of nicotine content, and equally full in body and flavor. Sometimes I find Brazilian wrapper to be unappealing, but when they’re done right they can really elevate a cigar, which is the case with this. I love that you get so much cigar out of this for a price that is more than reasonable.
