The Year of the Tiger transforms traditional Dominican craftsmanship into an Asian-inspired masterpiece, where carefully selected tobaccos from three nations converge in perfect harmony. The reddish-brown Ecuadorian Habano wrapper gleams with natural oils, promising the smooth, refined experience that unfolds with each draw. Initial notes of sweet cedar and roasted coffee beans greet the palate, enhanced by tropical nut undertones that speak to the cigar’s Caribbean heritage.
As the smoke progresses, the medium-bodied profile reveals layers of natural tobacco sweetness interwoven with gentle fruit notes and warming spices. The Nicaraguan binder adds structure and subtle earth tones, while the Dominican and Nicaraguan filler combination creates a creamy texture punctuated by hints of clove and mixed pepper. This careful balance ensures accessibility for developing palates while offering enough complexity to engage seasoned enthusiasts.
Beyond its exceptional blend, the Year of the Tiger stands as a collector’s piece, presented in striking red wooden boxes designed to resemble traditional pagodas. Each box contains sixteen cigars arranged in two sets of eight—honoring the Chinese lucky number—making this release as visually impressive as it is flavorful. The commemorative bands featuring bold tiger imagery and bilingual text further emphasize this cigar’s position as a bridge between Eastern symbolism and Western tobacco traditions.

I liked this smoke a lot more than expected. It didn’t knock my socks off since I didn’t expect too much from it, but the flavors were balanced.
I wouldn’t recommend pairing this with whiskey. It’s more of a rum or tequila smoke (maybe even mezcal).
That being said, I was feeling frisky and paired it with a cola and the spice from the cola went ok with the Tiger.
