Warped Isla del Cocodrilo
The Warped Isla del Cocodrilo captures the mystique of Cuba’s Zapata Swamp through an exceptionally sweet Dominican creation that has captivated experienced smokers across the industry. Kyle Gellis commissioned this medium-bodied blend at Tabacalera La Isla in Santiago, selecting an Ecuadorian Habano Desflorada wrapper that transforms traditional expectations with its pronounced butterscotch and caramel character.
Key Features
- Dessert-Like Sweetness Profile – Pronounced butterscotch, cream, and caramel notes create an uncommonly sweet smoking experience
- Ecuadorian Habano Desflorada Wrapper – Premium wrapper selection delivers exceptional complexity and refined character
- Nicaraguan Core Tobaccos – Carefully selected Nicaraguan binder and filler provide balanced foundation
- Superior Construction Quality – Near-perfect burn lines with self-correcting properties and consistent draw
- Two Vitola Options – Available in both Toro and Corona Gorda formats to suit different preferences
- Cuban-Inspired Heritage – Named after the majestic Cuban crocodile inhabiting the Zapata wetlands
Detailed Description
The Isla del Cocodrilo represents a departure from Warped’s typical profile direction, embracing an intensely sweet character that has converted even skeptical enthusiasts. Initial light reveals cedar, hay, leather, and white pepper notes that quickly transition into the cigar’s signature sweetness. The Ecuadorian Habano Desflorada wrapper, processed through a unique desflorada technique that removes the top leaves during cultivation, contributes a refined sweetness rarely encountered in contemporary blends.
Tabacalera La Isla’s production expertise shines through every aspect of construction. The draw resistance sits perfectly in the medium range, while burn lines remain razor-sharp with occasional self-corrections that eliminate constant maintenance. Smoke production stays generous throughout, creating thick, creamy clouds that coat the palate with butterscotch and cream notes. The retrohale remains approachable with subtle cinnamon and baking spice characteristics that complement rather than compete with the primary sweetness.
Many experienced reviewers specifically praise the Toro vitola for showcasing the blend’s full evolution. The extended smoking time allows complete flavor development through each third, with the final portion delivering an intensified butterscotch character mixed with toasted nuts and subtle citrus sweetness. The Corona Gorda provides a more concentrated experience, emphasizing the spice and cedar elements while maintaining the underlying caramel sweetness that defines this blend.
Production occurs in 15-count boxes, reflecting the artisanal approach at Tabacalera La Isla. Each cigar undergoes meticulous quality control, ensuring consistent wrapper coloration, proper bunch density, and optimal moisture levels. The milk chocolate brown wrappers display minimal veining with a slight oil sheen that promises the rich flavors within.

What makes the Isla del Cocodrilo stand out among other Warped releases?
This blend showcases an uncommonly sweet profile with dominant butterscotch and caramel notes that diverge from Warped’s typical offerings. The Ecuadorian Habano Desflorada wrapper creates a dessert-like smoking experience that has won over many enthusiasts who weren’t previously drawn to the brand.
Which size offers the best representation of this blend?
The Toro format receives particular acclaim for allowing complete flavor development through all three stages. The extended smoking time showcases superior transitions and an exceptional final third where the butterscotch sweetness reaches peak intensity.
How does the construction quality compare to other premium cigars?
Tabacalera La Isla demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship with near-perfect burn lines that occasionally self-correct without intervention. The draw resistance, packing density, and overall consistency rank among the finest examples of Dominican production.
What flavor progression can I expect throughout the smoke?
The cigar opens with cedar, hay, leather, and white pepper before quickly transitioning to cream, butter, and caramel sweetness. The middle portion intensifies the butterscotch character while introducing subtle nuttiness. The final third combines concentrated sweetness with toasted notes and hints of citrus.
Is this suitable for morning smoking?
The medium to medium-plus strength profile makes this an excellent choice for morning or evening enjoyment. The moderate nicotine content won’t overwhelm early in the day while the sweet flavor profile pairs well with coffee.
How does the Corona Gorda compare to the Toro?
The Corona Gorda provides a more concentrated experience with emphasized spice and cedar elements. While maintaining the signature sweetness, the shorter format delivers a punchier profile that some prefer for its intensity.
What inspired the Isla del Cocodrilo name and theme?
The cigar takes its name from Cuba’s Zapata Swamp, the island nation’s largest wetland and home to the endemic Cuban crocodile. This connection to Cuba’s natural wilderness reflects the untamed character and exclusive essence captured in the blend.
Does this cigar require aging or is it ready to smoke?
While enjoyable fresh from the box, many enthusiasts report that brief rest periods of 2-4 weeks allow the sweetness to integrate more fully with the underlying tobacco notes, creating an even more harmonious profile.

After visiting a local b&m and grabbing both sizes & watching literally countless reviews and not hearing one bad thing on these I decided to grab a box. They are definitely box worthy! I found there’s sweet, salty and
buttery undertones and notes throughout this cigar that keeps it interesting and enjoyable during the whole experience for me. Of course Oxfords ordering process was simple and easy and packing were outstanding as well when they arrived..

Man, what a great smoke. Both sizes are excellent. After smoking a few of each, the Cocodrilo has moved into my top spot. I haven’t been the biggest Warped fan so this was a nice surprise. After seeing the hype on some YouTube reviews, I had to give it a try, glad I did. I foresee a lot of Cocodrilo bands in my ashtray this year.

I had 3 of these(toro size) before buying a box and it’s the real deal. Notes of light cedar, hay, leather, and white pepper at the start. But once you get the cream, butter, and caramel like sweetness it’s fantastic! Warped and Kyle are making straight fire!

It probably helped that I was in Kauai when I smoked my first Isla del Cocodrilo, but I was blown away by the complexity of this blend. Cream, cedar, toasty, buttery, caramel, and nutty notes. It’s definitely in my top 5 list. I can’t recommend this stick enough.

The Cocodrilo fits my preferred/favorite flavor profiles. Construction and burn were near perfect – occasional and self-correcting burn line. Great pack. Pronounced tones of butterscotch and citrus sweetness with an undertone of nuttiness throughout the cigar. Retrohale fairly mild with hints of cinnamon and baking spice. Creamy to syrupy smoke texture with long, tasty finish. I just purchased my second box.

Big fan of this blend and I’m very happy they offered it in a corona gorda; we need to see more of those! Perfect smoking time for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the blend.

I bought a few of the Toros and a few of the coronas. I normally prefer smaller vitolas but I think the Toro Really shines with this blend. Good flavor and construction all the way through nice transitions through each third and a good final third which is normally not a high note on most cigars in my experience. Shipping was super fast and cigars came in great condition so all around great service from the company.

I grabbed a fiver in corona and wasn’t too impressed. Flavor profile consisted of spice, light cinnamon and cedar. I’ve heard the toro has a ton of sweetness which seems would suit my palate better.

It’s a solid cigar. The flavor profile to me was sort of a toasted sugar, woody, nutty cigar. Strength was down the middle, and the cigar developed intensity slowly throughout the smoke, as you’d expect. A good cigar morning or evening, as it’s not super robust. I’d actually give it 3.5 stars, but that wasn’t an option on this website.

This offering from Warped is shocking. Medium bodied, sweet, unrelentingly so. Butterscotch, creamy. It is a dessert. Highly recommend and yes the hype is real.
