Matilde Introduces Cigar Honoring Legendary Cigarmaker

The cigar world lost one of its most legendary—and nicest—men in November 2024 with the passing of Jose Seijas from Parkinson’s Disease. Seijas spent most of his career as general manager at Altadis’s Tabacalera de Garcia factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic, before retiring in 2012. Seijas spent most of his retirement establishing Matilde Cigars with his son Enrique.

With his father’s passing, Enrique introduced a cigar at this year’s PCA Show to honor the late Jose’s legacy, Para Jose Seijas. Available in one size, a 6 x 52 Toro, the Para Jose Seijas is built using an Ecuadorian wrapper and Dominican binder and filler tobaccos. A medium+ smoke, the cigar is aged for at least a year before it is packaged in 20-count boxes. The MSRP is $18 and the cigars are now available.

Perhaps most important, like the man for whom the cigar is made, the Para Jose Seijas is dedicated to helping others. Matilde is pledging a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Para Jose Seijas to the Parkinson’s Foundation in the Dominican Republic, adding much needed funds in the treatment of others who suffer from the disease that ultimately claimed Jose.
