In an interview with the two Barclays and their producer, Maurice Koks, we found out that the new Barclay line will be launched during the month of September in London. The cigars are already available for individual purchase in London’s hotel and club scene, and the first reactions are positive: a perfectly constructed cigar, light to medium-bodied, a nice ash, and a linear flavor profile; in short: the typical characteristics of a good Dominican cigar. Producer Koks further adds: “We let the cigars age for between six and 12 months before we package them so that they’re ready to smoke.”
There are three lines: the Classic line, the Series F, and the Family Reserve. The latter is reserved exclusively for events and special occasions; the others are to be released on the market. The price range lies between USD 20.00 and 40.00 per cigar. Each line encompasses four formats, from ring gauge 54 to 60.
Freddy: I inherited the passion for cigars from my grandfather, who once smoked six to seven of them per day.
Sir Frederick laughs: The bigger the better, and I very much wanted my grandson to distribute my cigars.
Freddy: Our goal is to sell around 72,000 cigars in the first year. London is traditionally a market that is dominated by Cuban cigars. That’s why it’s important for us to concentrate on the markets in the United States, the Middle East, and China. The name Barclay stands for English heritage – a name that guarantees quality.
And Maurice Koks adds: “Every day in our new factory, we work on continuing to improve quality. For this line we use our best tobacco and our best cigar rollers. Only the best of everything comes to Barclay.”
