General Asks Appeals Court to Overturn Its “Cohiba” Trademark Loss to Cuba

Since 1997, General Cigar Co.—which sells the non-Cuban Cohiba in the U.S.—and Cubatabaco—which is owned by the Cuban government—have been engaged in a legal battle over the U.S. trademark for Cohiba. Last week, General filed a brief in a new federal appeals court in an effort to try to save its trademarks.
