Right along the border of South Carolina on the North Carolina side just south of Charlotte lies the city of Waxhaw. This historic town was named after the Native American tribe of the same name, and since that time has served as textile and railroad hub, as well as being the birthplace of the 7th president of the USA, Andrew Jackson. Now Waxhaw has a new development, as it is now the location of one of the most charming cigar spots in the south as it is home to FD Cigar Company. Ginger Bullard and Mark Emerman are the brainchildren behind this gorgeous facility.

When you come in from the street, you go straight up the stairs to the second floor. When you arrive, you enter an environment that is most pleasing to the senses. Set in the mode of a speakeasy, Ginger is waiting behind the bar to make you a delicious cocktail to pair with your cigar choice. The signature cocktails change with the season, so you won’t find the same drinks in the summer that you might find in the winter.

When you go into one of the 2 smoking rooms, there is beauty in every direction. With incredible attention to detail, Ginger and Mark have created an environment where big city pageantry meets small town charm. The furniture as well as the adornments on the walls serve to set the perfect setting to enjoy your cigar and cocktail and take a trip back in time, or to savor the loveliness of the present. Every so often you can also look out the front windows and see the train pass by which is reminiscent of the town’s history.
