The Heart Land of the Olmecs is the tropical lowlands of modern-day Mexican states of Veracruz, Tabasco, and San Andrés Tuxtla. Today, this is the same region that grows some of the finest San Andrès Negro wrapper tobacco.
This seed variety is considered one of the oldest seed varieties in the world. Olmec cigars contain the finest Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from the Esteli and Jalapa valleys. After fermentation, these filler tobaccos are bale aged for three years before arriving on the production floor.
The San Andrés Negro wrapper tobacco comes from the rich volcanic soil of the land of the Olmecs. It is fermented slowly at low temperatures to preserve the natural oils that give flavor. The blend delivers a full-bodied smoking experience with rich flavors of cacao, dark espresso, and spice without being too aggressive.

Coffee, dark chocolate, and baking spice. This was a very good cigar. Wish I got more of the Claro

Foundation Olmec Claro, It started off a little sweeter than the Olmec Maduro. The Claro ended up being much better than the Maduro. It had a complexity of bakers chocolate throughout it and a mellow woodiness and a slight saltiness finish. Definitely box worthy. Will be getting a box of these in the near future. This cigar is quintessential of Foundation brand!

Foundation’s Olmec line has impressed me. I thoroughly enjoyed the Maduro variant but kept seeing reviews that the Claro blend was the best of the two. I saw there were a few more Claro available from Oxford so I picked up a 5’er. Notes of cedar wood, earth, red pepper flake, and an organic vegetal note in the first third. The finish offers some lingering mild baking spice and flavors similar to unsweetened ice tea. The second third is mixture of the wood and leather with the tea notes still there. The soft box press is constructed very well, the ash holding on solidly. The smoke bellows and the retrohale offers white pepper tones. The last third has roasted mixed nuts and earthY notes. I was sipping water a lot with this one, very dry on the palate. A very enjoyable smoke, but I think I still like the Maduro even more!

It’s a great cigar, good flavors and great construction. All foundation cigars are good, you can’t go wrong. The Maduro version is just as good as the Claro.
