Montecristo Cigars
Montecristo is one of the most iconic cigar brands in history, founded in 1935 in Havana, Cuba, by Alonso Menéndez and named after Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo—a favorite among the lectores who read aloud to torcedores in Cuban cigar factories. After the Cuban Revolution, the legendary Ramón Cifuentes Toriello reestablished the brand for the American market in 1978, moving production to the Dominican Republic where Montecristo cigars are still handcrafted today at the La Romana factory under Altadis U.S.A. The extensive lineup includes the Montecristo Classic and White Series in silky Connecticut Shade wrappers with creamy, nutty flavors; the medium-to-full Platinum Series in a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper; the bold Monte by Montecristo with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper; the full-bodied Espada handcrafted in Nicaragua by Plasencia; and the commemorative 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua. From smooth, mild classics to full-bodied powerhouses, Montecristo offers nearly two centuries of cigar-making heritage and remains among the best-selling premium cigars in the United States.
